Hunt Brothers Pizza Brings More Flavor to Stewart-Haas Racing and Driver Kevin Harvick in 2019

Hunt Brothers Pizza,the nation’s largest brand of made-to-order pizza in the convenience store industry, announced a major expansion of its partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR team and its driver, Kevin Harvick.

From its booth inside the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Hunt Brothers Pizza unveiled the No. 4 Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Mustang Harvick will drive in select Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races in 2019.

This endeavor marks the latest evolution in a partnership that began in 2008 when Hunt Brothers Pizza made its initial foray into NASCAR with Haas CNC Racing, the precursor of SHR. Known for its offering of all toppings at no extra charge, the convenience store pizza brand then joined Harvick in 2010 at his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team, Kevin Harvick Inc. It is a relationship that has grown since, with Hunt Brothers Pizza pairing with Harvick at SHR in 2014, first serving as an associate sponsor on his No. 4 machine before transitioning to a full primary sponsorship for select NASCAR Xfinity Series when SHR debuted its Xfinity Series program in 2017. Aric Almirola to Carry Primary Sponsorship from Valley Technical Academy in Two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Races Beginning in 2019

Valley Technical Academy, offering immersive, 12-week courses in web development and cybersecurity, has partnered with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR team.

The Mission, Texas-based school prepares individuals for a career in technology, and Valley Technical Academy has chosen NASCAR and, specifically, the No. 10 team of SHR and driver Aric Almirola, to showcase its curriculum within a technology-driven industry. Valley Technical Academy will be the primary sponsor for Almirola and the No. 10 team for two races in 2019, with associate sponsorship beginning with this weekend’s Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway.

Almirola is enjoying a career year in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The 34-year-old from Tampa, Florida, is in his first season with SHR after spending the previous 10 seasons with other teams. Almirola has taken full advantage of his new home, scoring 12 top-10 finishes to position himself solidly in the NASCAR Playoffs. His top-10 tally is the highest it has ever been in a single year, and his 116 laps led is also a season high. And with eight races still remaining, Almirola can continue to add to these numbers.

“We’ve had a really good year and we’ve had fast racecars. The only thing that’s missing is just a trip to victory lane,” Almirola said. “We’ve run up front and we’ve led races and we’ve been in contention – we just need to pull an entire race together. It’s these kinds of collective performances that have made the No. 10 team a strong platform for Valley Technical Academy. They’re growing and achieving just like us. It’s a true partnership.”

Almirola has always valued the importance of an education, even as he worked his way toward the pinnacle of North American motorsports. As Almirola graduated from competing in the World Karting Association to open-wheel modifieds and then late model stock cars, he attended the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he studied for a degree in mechanical engineering. But after two years at UCF, Almirola earned an opportunity with Joe Gibbs Racing that ultimately led him to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

“My parents and grandparents instilled in me the value of an education,” Almirola said. “In order to go racing, I had to perform in school, and that included college. I continue to use what I learned in high school and at UCF to this day. Racing is a detail industry where knowledge is power. I can’t thank all of my teachers and professors enough. Between them and my family, they gave me the tools to succeed.”

Stewart-Haas Racing Brings Autodesk on as Sponsor

Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR team, has partnered with Autodesk, a leader in software applications for the architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, media and entertainment industries.

Autodesk will be the primary sponsor of the No. 00 Ford Mustang driven by Cole Custer and fielded byStewart-Haas Racing with Biagi-DenBeste in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for the Nov. 3 race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. DEKALB® Joins Stewart-Haas Racing

DEKALB®corn waved the green flag on the annual Farm Progress Show inside its “Fuel Your Yield” tent by announcing a new partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR team.

The opening day of the nation’s largest outdoor farm event saw the agricultural brand unveil the No. 14 DEKALB Ford Fusion Clint Bowyer will race throughout the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race weekend Oct. 19-21 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.DEKALB will be the primary sponsor for Bowyer and the No. 14 team at Kansas with the brand serving as an associate partner of Bowyer and the No. 14 team at all other races.

The Kansas race is a homecoming for Bowyer, who hails from nearby Emporia.

Cummins Joins Stewart-Haas Racing

Global power leader Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) is returning to motorsports with Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR team.

Cummins will debut on the No. 14 Ford Fusion of driver Clint Bowyer in the Aug. 18 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, sharing the primary sponsorship with Rush Truck Centers, the premier solutions provider for the commercial vehicle industry. Cole Custer Pays Tribute to A.J. Foyt with Throwback Paint Scheme for Darlington

On Jan. 17, 1965, the No. 00 Vel’s Ford Galaxie of A.J. Foyt became synonymous with true grit and perseverance. And come Sept. 1 in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, Cole Custer will pay tribute to Foyt as his No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang from Stewart-Haas Racing with Biagi-DenBeste (SHR) emulates the paint scheme Foyt carried 53 years ago at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway.

It was the NASCAR Grand National Series’ 1965 kickoff at the 2.7-mile road course. Foyt was considered a favorite, as he often was throughout his illustrious racing career. He started strong by leading 12 laps in his white and blue No. 00 Ford and battled Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones at the front of the field. Late in the race, Foyt lost his brakes, and with no way to stop, he steered his machine off the track in an effort to avoid a collision with fellow competitor Junior Johnson. His car veered down a steep embankment and went airborne. Upon landing, it flipped several times, kicking up a cloud of dirt so thick it obscured the car after finally coming to a rest.

Foyt was knocked unconscious and when the first doctor arrived on the scene, he pronounced Foyt dead. But Jones, who had fallen out of the race, noticed movement from Foyt and removed a clod of mud from his mouth, allowing Foyt to breathe again.

Two months removed from this near-death experience, Foyt won the pole for the season-opening USAC Champ Car Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. It was the first of 10 poles Foyt would score in 1965, including the pole for the Indianapolis 500 with a new track record. And six months after his crash at Riverside, Foyt was back in victory lane, having won the Firecracker 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in a Ford, the second of his seven NASCAR Cup Series victories.

It was a heck of a comeback, and it proved to be one of many comebacks the tenacious Foyt would make in a motorsports career that is still ongoing as a team owner in the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Foyt remembers that day at Riverside well, particularly the car number.

“I said after that wreck that I’d never run a number that reads the same way when it’s upside down. I only ran it a couple times, but after Riverside, that was it,” Foyt said. “Cole seems to have had a lot more luck in the No. 00 than me, or at least more starts where all four wheels stayed on the ground. But I do appreciate the tribute. I remember all my racecars, and I remember that No. 00 Ford being fast before the crash.”

Foyt’s dogged determination is well known, and it is emulated by Tony Stewart, the co-owner of SHR with Haas Automation founder, Gene Haas. Stewart’s career mirrored Foyt’s, with both drivers proving adept at racing all kinds of vehicles on dirt and asphalt.

“A.J. is my hero, and a great friend who I’ve known for a long time,” said Stewart, the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, 1997 IndyCar Series champion and four-time USAC champion. “It didn’t matter what it was, but if it had four wheels and went fast, A.J. would drive it. NASCAR stock cars, USAC stock cars, sprints and midgets, Indy cars, IMSA sports cars – A.J. won in all of them. We both kind of came up through the racing ranks in the same way. He just did it in a different era.

“I think it’s pretty cool that Cole is paying tribute to A.J. with this throwback paint scheme at Darlington. It obviously has some history behind it, and it’s probably the best example of how tough and resilient A.J. is.”

Custer is in his second full season of Xfinity Series competition with SHR. The 20-year-old from Ladera Ranch, California, is currently fourth in the championship standings and well on his way to making his second straight appearance in the NASCAR Playoffs.

“A.J. Foyt is one of the toughest guys in the history of racing,” Custer said. “I’ve always been inspired by his career because he never gave up, no matter the circumstances. That wreck he had at Riverside was vicious, but he bounced back and just kept on winning.

“A.J. and this paint scheme remind me that no matter how hard things get on the racetrack or in life, you never stop fighting. His will and determination set the bar. It’s an honor to run this throwback scheme at Darlington in tribute to everything that A.J. stands for.”

Foyt’s blue and white “mooneyes” scheme made its debut at Riverside. It also retired at Riverside. The No. 00 Vel’s Ford never made it to victory lane, but come Sept. 1 at Darlington in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200, Custer plans to put this throwback scheme where it is meant to be – victory lane.

Clint Bowyer’s Darlington Throwback Paint Scheme Honors NASCAR Hall of Famer Ned Jarrett

No. 14 Carolina Ford Dealers Ford Fusion Celebrates Jarrett’s 1965 Southern 500 Victory

 

Ned Jarrett amassed many special memories during his racing and broadcasting career in NASCAR, but few equal that hot afternoon on Sept. 6, 1965 when the 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee won the Southern 500 Sept. 2 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway by an astounding 14 laps.

It’s appropriate that the No. 14 Ford of Clint Bowyer will celebrate Jarrett’s emphatic victory 53 years later in the 69thrunning of the Southern 500 at the 1.366-mile Darlington oval. The No. 14 Carolina Ford Dealers Ford Fusion from Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) will mimic the design Jarrett ran on his race-winning 1965 Ford Galaxie by sporting a royal blue paint scheme with period-specific graphics.

“Stewart-Haas Racing and the Carolina Ford Dealers got together and decided to honor someone who’s had such a huge influence in the sport, and we immediately thought of Ned Jarrett,” Bowyer said. “A lot of folks know Ned as a NASCAR champion and a lot of us know him from broadcasting races all those years. He’s had so many roles in our sport and done them all really well.”

Jarrett wheeled his No. 11 Richmond Ford Motor Company Galaxie to a commanding Southern 500 victory over fellow NASCAR Hall of Famer Buck Baker in a race that took nearly 4 hours and 20 minutes and saw only 15 of the 44 entrants still running at the end of the 364-lap race.

“We ran well during the race and led some laps and then things began to turn our way in the last 100 miles or so,” said Jarrett, whose victory was the 12thof his 13-win season in 1965, but first at Darlington. “I had no idea how far ahead we were, but I know the Ford officials that were there came down and camped in my pits, and they knew how much of a lead I had and they tried to get the crew to bring me in. We didn’t have radio communications back then, so they just wrote on the blackboard for me to pit. I knew we didn’t need to pit, but they knew the car was overheating, so I kept going because something told me stronger than the officials of Ford and my own pit crew that I needed to stay out there and keep going.”

Jarrett made it to the end of the 500-mile race and it turned out to be the biggest margin of victory in NASCAR Cup Series history. It marked the 49thof Jarrett’s 50 career wins, and it helped secure his second and final series championship, bookending the title he won in 1961. Jarrett ran 21 races in 1966 before transitioning to a broadcasting career that began on a radio station in Newton, North Carolina, and included tenures at MRN Radio and in television at CBS, ESPN and TNN. In fact, Jarrett was the first widely known television analyst to work for different broadcast networks at the same time. He spent 22 years at CBS and 19 years with ESPN while co-hosting the weekly, one-hour Inside NASCARprogram on TNN.

Darlington and its Labor Day race weekend host “The Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR” where the industry honors the sport’s history. Last year, nearly all the NASCAR Cup Series teams competed with throwback paint schemes in the Southern 500.

“I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to the Southern 500,” said Jarrett, who earned the nickname “Gentleman Ned” for how well he treated fans, crewmembers and competitors. “That weekend is special because you see how far we’ve come as a sport. All the different generations gather there and we celebrate NASCAR.” 

Younger generations likely know Jarrett better as the patriarch of one of NASCAR’s first families. He was born in Newton on Oct. 12, 1932 and grew up working on the family farm and at their sawmill. He and his wife, Martha, still live about six miles from where he grew up. The couple has two sons who are both former NASCAR drivers, Glenn and Dale, and one daughter, Patti J. Makar. They also have six grandchildren and one great grandson. 

Ned and Dale became the second father-son combination to win NASCAR Cup Series championships when Dale earned the 1999 title. Glenn followed his father’s career into racing and broadcasting, and after retiring as a driver in 2008, Dale joined Ned and Glenn as a broadcaster. Patti also worked in racing and married Jimmy Makar, who worked with Dale for three years at Joe Gibbs Racing and was the 2000 championship-winning crew chief for Bobby Labonte. Dale’s son, Jason, scored several ARCA victories and made numerous starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Bowyer is a 10-time NASCAR Cup Series winner and is in his second year driving SHR’s No. 14 Ford Fusion. He replaced three-time series champion Tony Stewart, who retired as a NASCAR driver at the end of the 2016 season. Victories earlier this year at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway earned Bowyer a berth in the NASCAR Playoffs that begins two weeks after the Southern 500.
