There is a reason why they keep us poor...so we can't afford to run against them and get ourselves elected into their house or senate seat.

lol... I heard the cost of living didn't go up last year when I had my annual merit review in March. I just stared at him till he had to look away... WTH... Now it costs me 50.00 a week just to drive back and forth to work each week, no where else... I stop at the grocery store on the way home so I don't put any extra miles on my commute. There are no buses I can take to get to work from where I live. If I took the express to the Capital, I'd have to take 4 more buses to get to work and instead of driving for 45 min., I'd be sitting on the bus for 3 hours. Sorry, but my time is worth something. And, to top that off, they're moving our office which will add another 6 miles each way. I've gotten to the point where I make up some excuse 1 day a week and work from home. The stupid gas prices change every day but my wages only change once a year and the percentage gets smaller every year...

Re: WTH????

Wow, I've not figured that up as I'm lucky right now I don't have to work & the husband drives the work vehicle to & from work everyday. I do take the kids to school & use 1/4th tank gas each wk.

But yours I broke down as an average just for an idea:

$50.00 for gas a wk. divided by $4.00 a gallon = 12.5 gallons used over a 5 day period for work.

A car getting 15 MPG means (12.5 x 15) = 187.5 miles driven in that 5 day time.

187.5 divided by 5 days = 37.50 miles per day.

37.5 divided by 2 (to & from work) = 18.75 miles one way.

.........I'm glad I don't have to work!

Re: WTH????

Speaking of... we're also spending a lot more at the grocery store than we were just a few months ago. We've seen food prices go up due to rising transportation costs (gas). Basic food crops (corn, rice, wheat, etc.) go up due to higher production costs (gas). We've also seen many instances where the product's price hasn't risen, but the amount (weight or volume) has been reduced, effectly raising the price per unit.

It seems that somewhere, as a country, we've switched from the gold standard to the oil standard. :(

Re: WTH????

MFG's have been reducing the weight or ounces over the last few years. Remember how big & thich Charmin use to be & it was just a 4 pack? You need 4 of the mega big rolls to equal a long time ago 4 regular rolls of it. Use to be 89 cents then $1.29 & now what? I don't buy the 4 pack because I'll get the better buy & get the larger packs. It's over 2 now I believe.

Kleenexes, large family pack use to be 280 count, now lowered to 260 & this was done about 5 yrs ago.

My local grocery store is still going around raising prices up 60 cents or more per item. Smaller items 30-40 cent hike.

There's some things I buy as something extra once in a while, but with the price hikes, I'm not buying it period now. I like to get large frozen shrimp twic a yr, but I've only bought once & won't be getting anymore for another yr.

Sirloin steaks & T-bones when Krogers has a sale, unless it's "cheap", I won't be buying that anymore either. I get the cheapest chunk of beef I can & when you pressure cook it, any beef turns out tender.

I can't stand to grocery shop anymore & it use to not bother me. But prices like they are it isn't any wonder people aren't buying much stuff.
