Newman: Take Care of Montoya Yourself

Ryan Newman and Juan Pablo Montoya may need trunks and gloves to settle their differences if NASCAR refuses to step in, Newman’s crew chief said Tuesday night.

Tony Gibson, appearing on SPEED’s NASCAR RaceHub, said Newman chose not to seek out justice against Montoya after Saturday’s Richmond race because he thought NASCAR would dole out discipline.

Newman, who said he was going to take care of things with Montoya after the race, instead made a voluntary trip to the NASCAR hauler to find out what NASCAR was going to do about Montoya dumping Newman.

“Ryan just wanted to know where we stood, ’cause we were under the assumption that NASCAR was going to handle it,” Gibson said. “[We didn't] retaliate, we kept our cool and we did the right things, and we just assumed that NASCAR was going to handle it after the race, and I think we got somewhat of an answer we were looking for.”

Apparently, the answer was something to the effect of handle it yourself.

“It’s pretty much game on, I guess, and boys have at it,” Gibson said. “So it makes me a little nervous…. If that’s the rule, it’ll probably get pretty ugly I’d say across the field. So, it should be interesting.”

Gibson is frustrated for the team members who have to rebuild cars after such fracases, also noting that the poor finishes from wrecks “takes money out of their pocket” via the loss of bonus money.

Many fans were expecting fisticuffs after the race, and Gibson would be happy if Newman and Montoya went ahead and got things settled by setting up a ring at the track.

“Just give them an hour, whether you do it on pay-per-view and everybody who’s there gets to see it for free, put them in a ring, let them go at it and see,” Gibson said. “‘Cause that way it don’t hurt the cars, the guys don’t suffer, and if they really want to fight, and they’re really mad, they’ll go at it.”

I’d pay money to see Newman and Montoya go a round. There would be only one round with one hit – Newman knocking Montoya’s #### out. That is is if Montoya doesn’t run away. I think Montoya could probably beat Newman in a foot race. That’s probably the only race he could win. How many times has Montoya been in the chase verses Newman? How many races has Montoya won verses Newman?

Only guy I have heard say it was JPMs fault was Ryan Pemberton. Mikey tried to make it sound like Ryan straight up rammed into the back of him. (the bonehead) Also on Inside Nascar I heard JPM ask Brian Pattie "what you think I should do, & you know what I mean" Brian Pattie's only reply after a pause was "yes" (basically telling JPM to retaliate) I really wish JPM would have acted as tough after the race as he did with Harvick at Sonoma.

being a ryan fan i dont to exception to what JPM did saturday nite, they have a history since day one, its a short track, nascar is not ever going to do anything, and drivers know it, so they will push as far as they can, lastly im sure JPM felt he had a car to win the race since he sat on the pole, so the easiest thing to do was to return the favor and dump ryan, whether it is right or wrong, it is what it is, racing, sometimes our drivers get burned by it, but there are times our drivers do the same thing, i personally thought ryan could have let up, or tried to, but that doesnt make him guilty of anything, just ran out of room.

My personal observation and watching the number of replays is that Ryan's brake rotors were quite red, meaning he had to be right on the brakes when JPM came up in front of him the way he did.

This is going to get real nasty, really really nasty. I just wish Ryan would get it over with when there are no other cars around either one of them.

Well as fast as things happen on a short track, as soon as you decide to make a move, you wont be able to move back to give room to a driver that comes across your nose. (you would never pass a single car that way)
Point I am making is JPM asked a guy that couldnt see what happened & that guy told JPM yes to get him back. JPM had to ask who got into him to begin with. This wasnt a thing between JPM & Ryan (in JPM's mind) it was a guy that turned JPM into the wall (again in his mind) no matter who the driver was. He got the green light from his CC who knew nothing & saw nothing of the situation at the time he said yes. This to me completely reflects on JPM & the 42 team. Not the fact that Ryan made a move to the outside. (& JPM ran into him)
If Kyle went three wide & a wreck happened because of it, it would have been considered hard racing, no matter if Dale Jr lost control or not. As far as the media itself goes. It is all about perception, & they paint the picture for most fans. Then most fans will mirror that opinion. Obviously not fans of the drivers involved, but most of other fans. So if that was a move JJ, Burton or Mark Martin made, they would have blamed JPM or his spotter, not the driver that got cut off.
Honestly right now, I am more irrated with Brian Pattie than JPM. JPM asked what to do & the CC told him. You know most drivers will then do it. (granted JPM doesnt need much coaxing)
Bottom line you ae on a short track, & when someone opens up a hole, you take it, whether it is mile 2 or mile 498. That move was made all day long by Kyle. He just didnt have a car run him into the wall is the only difference.
You know when Matt turned into the wall causing the big wreck with Gordon. They didnt blame the car that turned him. He wasnt clear. Plain & simple. No one said Bowyer should have backed off & let him cut him off.
