Newman scores eighth NASCAR Cup Series pole for SHR in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (28.213 seconds at 135.002 mph). It is Newman’s series-leading sixth Cup Series pole at New Hampshire and the 49th of his Cup Series career. The fast time also gave Newman a sweep of the Cup Series poles at New Hampshire in 2011, as he broke the track record with his pole run for July’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301.
