Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Hearing deal is done. Kurt will be at SHR in 2014. Expect announcement once Chase begins unless the 78 makes the chase.

Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Doesn't it bother anyone what the time line on this whole thing this is?

1) July 11 - Tony announces at Loudon that they don't have the funding for a 4th car, so they are releasing Ryan at the end of the year.

2).August 5 - Tony crashes in Iowa breaking his leg in two places and is admitted to hospital for surgery in the early hours of August 6

3). August 7 - Tony is flown back to Charlotte and re-admitted to hospital for 2nd surgery to put a rod in his leg.

4). August 11 - Tony is released from the hospital.

5). August 12 - It is reported that SHR has offered Kurt Busch a contract for a 4th car which will be funded by Gene Haas and Haas CNC

Tony knew Gene wanted Kurt but the deals never went through, for whatever reason. Now, Tony is out of commission in another state and suddenly Kurt is offered a deal brokered by Gene for a 4th car that Tony said they didn't have resources for 5 weeks ago. Zippy has stated that no one was aware of this until less than 14 days ago. Where was Tony 14 days ago? Flat on his back in the hospital in Iowa. It seems like Gene waited to do this until Tony wasn't in a position to discuss it and he took advantage of that. What kind of partner waits until his counterpart is out of commission to broker a deal in secret? It seems like Gene was just waiting for Tony to get hurt to do this.

Now a lot of fans of Ryan's and of SHR are wondering if Tony lied in Loudon. I don't believe he did. I think Gene Haas was waiting for an opportunity to push a deal through with Kurt and got it when Tony got hurt. Tony's people were focused on him and getting him back to Charlotte to the specialist to finish the repairs to his leg. Why would anyone think that Gene would try something like this. Gene has tarnished the good name of SHR and in effect Tony as well. People are saying that Tony can't be trusted. That what is happening is back stabbing and underhanded. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like that. Tony has always prided himself on being honest and above board in everything he does. He modeled his business plan after what he learned from Joe Gibbs. IMO Tony's legal team needs to find a way to buy out Gene Haas. It is clear that he is the one that can't be trusted. If he would do it once, he'll do it again. I don't like Tony's rep being questioned. His ethics are a big reason why I follow him. I just hope that when Tony is able to come to the track that he will shed light on this. Only then will he be able to repair the damage that Gene Haas has done.

I agree with you eve! I don't like the way all this has gone down. I personally don't think Tony lied. I hate that this is ruining his good name and company. I will be glad when we can hear from Tony too!

Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Thank you, Rachel J. I don't usually get this upset about things, but it really bothers me that Gene has put Tony in this position. I'm sure when Tony took all of this on he didn't think he was going into business with an underhanded snake.

Hearing him on the radio tonight makes me look forward to when Tony can come to the track and set everything straight and start to repair the damage Gene has done to him and SHR.

When I care about someone, I get protective. When I learned Tony was hurt all I could think of was the last time my driver was hurt in a race, we buried him a week later - that was Dale. An attack on Tony is personal to me and I will defend him always. He's not perfect, but he is our Tony and as fans we will always have his back. #Smoke will rise

Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Thennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, here's another bit of speculation.... Sparkle Pony will be gone after 2014, right?? Well, here's a twist to add to all the SPECULATION. Ryan goes and drives for RCR in 2014, when Sparkle Pony leaves after next year, Ryan comes back and drives the 10 car with sponsorship yet to be determined (we've got a year to figure it out). H3LL, Kahne had to wait to get into the 5 car, right?? This may just be an opportunity for Ryan to stay sharp and then move right back in when what's her face leaves.....SO MANY THEORIES out there and truth be told, none of US know $hit about what's REALLY goin' on. So Ryan goes to RCR for a year...big deal, that'll give Ty Dillon his year in NW then.....guess what?? He gets promoted to Cup, Ryan's tenure there is done at the same time what's her face's is at SHR. Then all of a sudden, SHR becomes a team with 4 Cups and 110 wins. You NEVER know until EVERYTHING hits the fan.......... 8-)

Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Idkw everyone is trying to make a big deal of this, or try to look into something that isn't there. Tony was well aware that Gene wanted Kurt. People act like Tony has complete say at SHR. nobody knows for sure what went down. I would say Tony most likely pushed to have Ryan in the seat rather then Kurt but lets be honest, Ryan isn't getting the job done. Kurt is running much better week in and week out in worse equipment and with a worse crew, no matter what anyone says about Ryan's bad pit times. From a business standpoint, there are plenty of guys I could replace Ryan with. Gene obviously is a business man, he pulled the trigger on the Kurt deal, and my money is that it will pay off. Tony is also a business man himself. Yes he would like to keep Ryan but it isn't entirely his say. You think business partners agree on every decision? No, but my guess is Tony understands the decision. And if Gene wants to fund it out of his money, then that is going to happen.

@TheOrangeCone (if you believe him) tweeted yesterday that the deal was done and would be announced early this week.

I guess next year I'll just have to cheer for Tony and ignore the other 3 drivers, although I don't really have anything against Kevin. But the other two!?!... :( Sad state of affairs.

I may not like it - but think I have to concur with you. Since there was talk of Kurt last year, I don't believe Tony was totally unaware of Gene's feelings. According to Zippy in the press conference on Friday, they felt they had to tell Ryan this when they did so that he had a chance to find another ride. The timing on it all looks bad and it does look like Haas took advantage when Tony was down. And, Tony may (I hope) re-evaluate his contract with Haas because of it. But, I suspect this is not a complete surprise to him. It's just going to take time to see how he deals with it because you know the media is going to be asking him about it.

Re: Kurt Busch to SHR

Found this on the net maybe it will answer a lot of questions out there:

Haas would sponsor Kurt Busch
Updated: August 24, 2013, 7:24 PM ET
By David Newton | ESPN.com

BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Kurt Busch will be sponsored by Haas Automation if he signs with Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2014 season.
Gene Haas, who co-owns SHR with Tony Stewart, told ESPN.com on Saturday he wants the 2004 Sprint Cup champion in one of his cars because he wants to take his non-racing company's name to Victory Lane.
"I'd be happy to have a driver like that on our team," Haas said before the Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. "You'd win a lot of races. I'd really be happy for my company Haas to be in the winner's circle. I've never been there. I want to be there with that name.

"I know Kurt has had a lot of sponsorship issues, but to me, I just want to win. I'm not too much worried about that stuff."

Haas and the Furniture Row Racing driver began talking about the possibility of him coming to SHR last month during a General Motors dinner in Indianapolis.
Not long after that, SHR offered Busch a contract to expand the organization to four teams with Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Danica Patrick.

That came about a month after Stewart announced Ryan Newman would not return to SHR in 2014 because the organization didn't have sponsorship or funding to expand to four teams.
That changed when Haas stepped forward with Haas Automation for Busch, who has struggled to land sponsorship since a tumultuous departure from Penske Racing after the 2011 season.

"Tony was looking at it from a business standpoint ... you've got to have sponsors, you've got to have this, you've got to have that,'' Haas said. "Tony is a smart business man. He was concerned can we afford to do this. That's where the Ryan Newman-Tony thing came to where they decided to [part].

"The deal with Kurt Busch ... it's all on me. I'd like to have a dog in the fight, and I'm highly qualified."

Busch has offers from several other teams, including one from Furniture Row that was given to his attorneys on Friday. Busch has yet to look over the FRR deal and likely won't until Monday.

Haas said nothing has been signed as far as he knows, but he is optimistic Busch will come to SHR.

SHR competition director Greg Zipadelli said on Friday that the organization was stepping up its efforts to sign Busch.
"As far as Kurt's deal, that is moving forward,'' Zipadelli said. "We spent time this week talking about buildings and expanding. So as far as that part goes we're pretty much committed."
Asked specifically if he felt SHR could sign Busch, Zipadelli added, "We're working on that. If we can get it all worked out, we're going to add that link."

Busch, who qualified second at Bristol, said having organizations interested him after two years of having trouble finding a top organization and sponsor willing to back him was a confidence booster.
Busch entered Saturday's race ninth in points with three races left before the 12-driver Chase is set. He did not give a timetable for when a decision would be made on his future despite rumblings in the Cup garage it could come as early as next week.

Busch made it clear his focus was on making the Chase.

"So right now, the blinders are on,'' Busch said. "We are full-focus on just making sure we get nice, consistent finishes."
