+1, I laughed at that as well. I think he meant it as a compliment, but it didn't come off that way. And then Franco's voice cracked while saying "engines". Is he twelve and his ba#@s haven't dropped yet?

Exactly what happened. This was in the sports section of our newspaper this morning:

Actor James Franco , grand marshal of the Daytona 500, giving the almost customary start to the race and setting off criticism that he made it sound like Danica Patrick wasn't a driver. Franco apologized: 'I should have said, 'Gentlemen.' Sorry, I'm an idiot.'

well that idiot Rutledge wood egged him on in saying it when he interviewed hm, wood said " oh that would be a great idea."

What I found funny about 50 cent was that he tried to give Erin A. a kiss ....and she tried to dodge him! Ha ha ha!

it was on espn that nascar invited 50 cent, so those who have issue with it, talk to nascar, this was a way for nascar to get minority people interested in the sport, so im down with anything that attracts fans and potential sponsors

I don't have a problem with him being there. He was obviously a good luck charm for Mark Martin since he didn't crash. But the hat thing just rubbed me the wrong way, looked like a blatant lack of respect.

The rapper/thug reputation precedes these guys, so maybe I'm just less forgiving.

The topic isn't even worth discussing,mountian out of a mole hill,look who was speaking,was that the best Nascar could get?
Nascar wants to draw crowds and sell tickets,they might want to start with the racin.The 500 was boring,excitement is what sells,not catering to differant genders or races in hopes they'll come.Who wants to see a wreck fest or follow the leader? The only thing Nascar is doing is pushing more and more people away and they're doing it themselves!!
The Danica thing is not getting old- it is,over 40 other drivers out there and that's all they can talk about? I'm surprised they took the time to interview JJ after he won,next they run over to guess who! No one i know cares anymore,the race is over,it was boring and most still won't follow it still,because it's boring!
One Dale Snr.hater told me thou he didn't like him,he missed the contraversy and the moves he'd make on the track.My respondse was,Dale is what was left of Nascar!!!!

When does anyone in NASCAR take Rutledge serious? Oh, wait that Franco dude isn't from NASCAR and it's probably the first race he's been to. Sorry, I had to be sarcastic. But he could have just stuck with "Drivers start your engines", I think that would have covered everyone including Hank if he was driving. I'll go back to my corner now.

If Nascar wants to promote diversity at the races, I don't mind if Halle Berry or Beyonce shows up.
Or even Selma Hayek.
