What is your gut feeling going into this season?

My gut feeling is Ryan will make the Chase this year with his new crew.
I also think he will get a couple wins, and have a more consistent season overall this year.

Re: What is your gut feeling going into this season?

with a brand style of car I have no clue.

Borland though did put himself & the crew on the hot seat if things dont go well. He said if we dont run well now we know something is wrong. With HMS chassis & motors you can check them off what is wrong because we know they are gonna be good, & you can check the driver off because he is gonna be good.
Basically he is putting it on him & the team, if they struggle.

Weird having a CC take responsiblity on the 39 team. Gonna have to get used to this

What's old is new again.......Matt Borland and Ryan Newman chemistry will play a great factor in this teams success. They both speak "Engineerize"....... If all of you have not noticed, none of the teams pictures are posted on any of SHR teams.......shake up of pit crews too! If you didn't get to see Race Hub last night, Ryan has also developed a new language.......WHALE.......the car is tooooooooooo loooooooooooooooooose. I think he has his best shot yet! I give his chances an A- and the only reason for the minus is the new pit crew.

My hope for Ryan fans is that you don't jump into pessimism, before you give this whole new team a chance......They did well in testing at Daytona. First step.....Having said that........There are a few of you who have a tendency to dwell on all that is wrong......I won't name names ;)   I view this as a win-win situation, but won't be surprised at some very small bumps in the road. I see his talent for winning poles and the ole ROCKETMAN back. :)

you wont name names? Does it rhyme with moopy? LOL
I didnt get down on ryans team until 2 1/2 years of the same ol crapola. So I was very fair. I just didnt go all nuts when some small thing went good for ryan, thinking the team suddenly & miraculously changed & were good now.
My hopefulness has never been higher for Ryan since he has been with SHR. &I expect some growing pains & a couple bumps in the roads. Anyone listening to the radio at the end of the season already knows communication is better. Which is a huge step in the right direction.
What did Borland say about ryan. He gives better info than anyone he has heard, bar none, or something like that. Borland said it took him a couple races to get the language back down between the two of them but end of the season they reeled off a pair of top 5's. Thats nice momentum going into 2013 if you ask me.
The brand new car is the big question mark for me, but with more mechanical grip than the last car should feed into Ryans Advantage. With the Aero package teams like Roush & HMS were always gonna be kings. Mechanical grip helps the wheelmen of the sport more than just how well a team built the body in the fab shop.

In short...... I am excited for this coming season

Re: What is your gut feeling going into this season?

Roger Penske says he talked with Ryan Newman but enough sponsorship wasn't there for 3rd car,
says Newman could return in 2014 but Hornish first option for 3 teams.

Hmmm per Jayski....

Now Schmoopy, I said I wouldn't name names, but you were right it did rhyme with " loopy"......I like it: "loopy Schmoopy ". You are to funny......I am remembering this post, just incase  Go Ryan!

As for Ryan going to Penske......that third ride belongs to Hornish. He deserves it. He has done everything Roger has asked of him and more. I cannot see BK, Joey and Ryan working together at all.

Re: What is your gut feeling going into this season?

What I HOPE for Ryan AND the whole #39 Team is - -

That the new car ( never gonna call it a COT or "Gen - fill in the number"... LOL ) and new team mgmt are the glass slipper that Ryan has been searching for, for so long.

I hope the 39 team goes from the shadows ( now ) to the new "49er Kappy phee-nom." From no contract, to Tony begging Ryan to stay. To sponsors trying to outbid each other for the 39 team... and the Army coming back, saying "We have seniority".

What I FEAR for Ryan and the 39 Team is - -

Ryan will be edged out by the hype surrounding Danica and Kevin and their sponsors. :-(

The uncertainty of no secure contract & sponsors for next year.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~
But... I'm still going to be a positive, hopeful "Ryan / Team 39" fan ...and, as in all things, wait & see what happens. :-)
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!

Sh*t happens... but don't worry, it usually happens to me.

I would so love to drink the "cool-aide" early but I remain cautiously optimistic. Newman has had a complete "over haul" of his past race team including a new generation #6 race car! :?

Team #39 has a great engine/chassis program and two dedicated owners that's a given. Ryan's a great driver...that's a given. The only thing left is can Ryan's new crew BALANCE his new cars and his pit crew can be one of the elites? This we DON'T know yet! :D

Newman can NOW use engineering vernacular with Matt(an engineer)to convey race car adjustments. And, Matt will be able to translate Ryan's information for much better results.........I hope? :D

All our opinions are speculative until we get to witness the new Team #39. Nothing wrong with that!

Soon it will be baseball(Cincinnati Reds) and racing! Looking forward to it! :D

one thing you missed my ol' ryan fan. Matt can also think of strategies on his own. Ryan wont have to do it from the cock pit anymore. One of the reasons Ryan finished with a pair of top 5's at the end of the season.

Re: What is your gut feeling going into this season?

I agree with what has been said so far, that it looks to be a good year for Ryan. But I also agree with the gentlemen who said that Ryan might get lost for sponsors because of the hype for Danica. This would leave him on the outside looking in, especially if Harvick comes over. If Ryan doesn't have a good year, I would not be surprised to see him with another organization, like RCR. RCR is possible because they will have an opening.
