FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.............

Ryan Newman, second fastest in Daytona last day testing today of the new car. Even solo faster than the great #48 Team!(gotta love that!) :D ;)

Maybe the new car will take the advantage away from the juggernaut #48?

Re: FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.............

I guess this (gen 6 as they call it) car Nascar has taken away some of those grey areas that the most successful teams have abused for years.(we all know who's team that is ). I like that. Most successful teams very obviously won't come out and tell anyone their secrets. But once Nascar figures it out, they can prevent the very obvious cheating that has gone on since Nascar's inception. Cheating forces other teams to cheat in order to compete and that's never good......unless you can get away with it! ;)

It's good to see Newman fast by himself even though it is just testing. I'm looking for "anything" to be positive about this racing season!

S/H in general looked pretty good so far. Danica seems optimistic as well as Tony!

Re: FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.............

rumor is they are putting more mechanical grip into the car, which one would think be an advantage for Ryan.
As a side note I am glad they restricted from having the cars do the crab walk down the straightaways, so drivers had an easier time in the corners.

Hey S-1000! :D 8-)

More mechanical grip is a good thing. I'm sure Matt is loving the challenge of figuring out this Gen.6 car.....and he will! ;)

Danica seems happy so far with Gibson? But, my question is. After seeing the "not so good" results from Tony Gibson with Ryan...how can Danica feel confident with a re-tread crew chief like Gibson? :? Just saying......

Here are my thoughts on Danica and TG.

TG has FINALLY found the strong woman to make him her b*tch! :-)

Ha ha ha Ryan was like the guy who's nice to his gay friend, ( Not implying TG is gay ) but Danica holds the possibility of being that "mean girl" who will take advantage of a weaker man. ( Not implying Danica is a mean girl )

With Danica being a strong and confident woman, if she grabs TG by the short hairs and gives him a few shakes and says "Listen up Tubby, this is MY show now" he MAY actually THRIVE in that kind of relationship. It's all gonna be on Danica and how SHE treats him. Laugh all you want at this idea... but I have seen it play out before. ;-)

Hey Chevy? Where's our funny lil attachments to your posts? :-)
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!

Sh*t happens... but don't worry, it usually happens to me.

On the news here tonight......none of the test cars at Daytona had to go through inspection, so who know who was legal or who was not and what areas they were "enhancing"!!!!!! We'll see..... ;)

Re: FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.............

if ya keep comparing the 39 to the 48, your gonna be miserable, and this juggernaut you talk about, i dont see it, he has only 6 wins in the last two years, hasnt won a championship in 2 years, figure out why tony won a championship and not ryan, sometimes it goes to the skill and mentality of the driver, brad 3rd year in cup and won it all for penske, ryan had the tools n CC at penske and after that one good year, its been so so ever since. facts are fact.

This is true Annalee!

Even Stewart said,"It's not how fast we are here testing that matters"......."We are just gathering information to be used in building the cars back at the shop!" :D

Hey MJ!

The reason I compare "anyone" to the #48 is because they are the most successful/consistent race team in Cup! They have dominated this current decade. Plus, Newman and Johnson both arrived at the same time in Nascar. Newman beat out Johnson ironically for 2002 "Rookie Of The Year." Very obviously both their career paths have gone in opposite directions over the years. There both equally great drivers! ;)

well as long as your using facts, Penske turned to junk while Ryan was there & it wasnt just Ryans team, it was Penske as a whole.
I wouldnt compare JJ's situation & Ryans situation through their career & claim the difference was skill & mentality. Thats like comparing racing a corvette vs. a 1st year model T ford & saying its the driver is why the corvette won LOL.

Stats to us are like facts to lawyers.
We can make them say whatever we want.
If the stories were so black & white there would be no need for a message board.

I would have to agree with you Schmoopy! :D

There's very little fact on a (drive by)message board. It's mainly an opinion backed up possibly by second/third hand information unless directly quoted by the actual author.

Re: FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.............

I hesitate to think at this point the new car will make a big difference in who runs well and doesn't. After things went sour in 2006 I thought the same type of thing, that the COT could have been a welcome change for Ryan (even though I hated the car)...but Penske continued to struggle big with it.

More mechanical grip could definately help and the rules taking away all the rear-end housing stuff teams were doing, I'm not sure that ever suited Ryan, so this is good. Though a smaller rear spoiler could hurt, that was one of the things they did around 2004-2005 that seemed to mess Penske and Ryan up.

I still think teams like RCR and Ganassi will struggle, Gibbs and HMS will be strong - I just want to see Ryan run competitive with the other top Chevys (and run better than Harvick even though I like him too), and hopefully this year the Fords continue to be quiet especially Penske. Really got tired of hearing how BK was the greatest driver in history after last season.

I guess the bottom line in Nascar's eyes is to make Nascar as fair and balanced as possible. To sort of take away any mechanical/electrical/aero advantages that ALL race teams will search for. We all want to think each and every Nascar race is raced with 100% honesty and every team is playing by the rules but are they? The fans have no idea.

It would upset any fan knowing his/hers favorite race team was being beat on race day by cheating race teams! There goes your credibility and true interest.

When your favorite Nascar race team is being beat on race day by a "mom and pops" poorly funded race team. That really has one scratching their head! :?

All of us Newman fans know Ryan is Champion material. But he seems to never have the "racing luck" and consistency to get to the top. Strange racing forces seem to hinder him. You watch practice and he's mid pack in speed. His qual runs often times he's mid pack. You pretty much get a feel he's not going to be all that good for race day in most cases.........and he's not! :D
