Everything with our kids this year has been ... I want this and I want that ... so Mrs B and I decided to teach the kids a lesson this year. It is more blessed to give than it is to receive. No, we are not depriving them of gifts...totally. They can have the ones from relatives today...but won't they be shocked when there is nothing from us under the tree. We have always taught them about Jesus and that there is no Santa Claus, all the presents come from family and friends...not a guy in a red suit. Jesus received lots of gifts from lots of different people as well when he was born. This is what we have taught our kids.
Now to those of you wondering if we are going to give them anything...yes, we are going to make them wait a week or so. Let this lesson sink in. Maybe even have them write a story about the meaning of Christmas and how it is more blessed to give than to receive. Then in the future they will think back on this year and say was it worth it, should I have asked for so much, should I have thought of others first, and the list could go on.
