POST WATKINS GLEN BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!

Better racing than I had expected! :D

The usual drivers were fast. Stewart was "amazing" as always but was to aggressive towards the end and spun out. Still got a decent finish regardless. 8-)

Newman finished P11! Would like to see Ryan get a little more aggressive in my opinion. He's a clean racer I know but nice guys finish "last" in Nascar. 8-)

Kyle was strong but no cigar. And Kyle was accused of dumping oil upon the track. But, it was Bobby Lebonte's oil spill that had a lot of contenders slipping and sliding all over the track! :D

Newman is now 13TH in points folks! ;)

Not much else to add........your comments! :D

Re: POST WATKINS GLEN BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!

Hahaha, great caption as usual  I agree with all of your post except for Kyle. I think it was on the Victory Lane show where they determined that it was Bobby Labonte that left the oil on the track. Kyle worked his butt off all day and I felt bad for him, but stuff can happen and unfortunately, it usually happens to Kyle, at least this year. I was so happy for Marcos, he is a class act and someone you can genuinely feel happy for. I just wish he'd get a win on an oval, he's worked so hard and gets little recognition other than at a road course. As they say, on to Michigan :D

I can understand that. My sleeping schedule is way off lately. At least you got to see that crazy finish! That was outstanding :D

Kyle and Jeff's misfortunes were fortunate for Ryan :D. I am for sure going to Richmond now this is going down to the wire.

No doubt wolfgang.

What has me scratching my head is seeing Stewart go from P25 to almost first during the race but yet there's Newman seemingly stuck in "quick sand" mid pack. Are Newman's cars that bad or is he laying back? I sometimes feel Ryan is just a little to passive. I remember a much more aggressive Ryan Newman about 5 years ago! 8-)

Re: POST WATKINS GLEN BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!

I didn't listen to Ryan's scanner yesterday, so I don't know if he was having handling problems did see that he had a flat tire......Ryan qualified well but sometimes when things go wrong he seems to just let it defeat him.....where as of lately when things go wrong with Tony, it is almost like someone waving a red flag in front of a bull.......he becomes supercharged. When he came back out on the track after serving the gas can penalty, it was like some one flipped a switch and it was excuse me, excuse me, pardon me coming thru. He passed them like they were standing still...two or three at a time. It was fun to watch on Racebuddy, he was pickem up and putting them down....amazing!!

I hope you got to see the interview with TG.....it was really pretty good.. He was so happy that they were in the wild card spot...cause when Jeff Gordon passed Ryan on the track it was the lowest of lows and in a couple of laps, the highest of highs, when Jeff spun out.....He is in the wild card spot and that is a good thing.... 8-)

Love your captions!!

That's why I sort of mentioned about Ryan maybe being a little laid back more so than in the past?

Just my opinion since he now has two kids has it changed him?

I guess we will never know.............

I think you hit the nail on the head with the red flag comment. That's how he was in the chase last year. He "dirt-tracked" that car to those wins last year and I've seen shades of that in a few of his races this year. Ryan does seem to be lacking a little fire. I don't know what would fire Ryan up but if it was TG in the car, you could just hang a big ol greasy burger in front of the windshield and he'd be up front in no time

Re: POST WATKINS GLEN BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!

*Sigh*
I was gonna ignore this thread (& the BS I read about Ryan), but in the end decided to correct my fellow Ryan fans.
1st off Ryan was running 5th when he had to pit while the field was going green.
Tony also had a penalty but started with the field, so he was able to start passing cars right away.
Ryan was p30 & well over a half a lap down. He still managed to work his way up to p21 I think & also managed to stay about a half a lap down. because his stats for passing wasnt the same doesnt mean he was driving laid back. Then near the end Tony pitted the lap that the yellow came out so not only did he not have to pit when everyone else did under yellow, but everyone else slowed down while he was coming out of the pits so no one passed him being in the pits. (how he got to p2)
Now 7 laps earlier on Ryans radio they told him he would come in that same lap Tony did. However they had him go one lap more which caught him on the race track when the yellow came out or else Ryan would have been up inside the top 5 after everyone pitted during the yellow. Ryan never had any luck as to when the yellows fell, during the whole race. Ryan then went from p19 (instead of being in the top 5 if he pitted a lap earlier) & drove all the way up to p11. (really sounds like he was just taking it easy huh) On the final restart where he got hung up behind Jr & fell back to p14 on the restart, looked like he would be stuck there, with his spotter warning of oil was all over the race track.
Of course we all know the last lap Gordon spun & ryan passed 2 other cars going three wide after the final turn to pick up three positions. yep! He drove all nice & comfy & was laid back.

Stats my friends never tell the whole story. BTW when he was a half a lap down before he ran down 9 other cars, all his team was doing was telling him to dig & what a good job he was doing rattling off lap times for him. His only response was from time to time, he wanted to know what the leaders lap times were. he was trying to match the leaders lap times. Not to bad for a driver just laying back I think.

But hey....... The stats say he has no fire in the cockpit.

Just thought I would post this, in case if anyone was interested what really happened during the race.

Its funny. I am usually the one that is considered the glum one when it comes to the 39 team LOL

Re: POST WATKINS GLEN BETTER THAN ADVERTISED!

I didn't think I was being negative, at least I wasn't trying to be. Some of it may just be the difference in their personalities. When Tony starts talking smack in the car, it usually means he's fired up and comes tearing up through the field. I don't have access to Ryan's in-car audio so I don't know what goes on in there. Since DirecTv went to HD only on HotPass, I don't get anyone's in-car anymore. I don't think Ryan ever "lays back", I'm just saying I don't see the same fire in him that Tony shows at times.

Wow Schmoopy, thanks for the "play by play." :)

You see, I don't have the luxury of being able to watch the races live. I have to DVR all of them due to my work schedule. And by doing that, I tend to fast forward through a good bit of the races. So, I depend on you out there to sort of fill in the gap in which you often do. 8-)

Years ago I use to listen in on Ryan's scanner when I could watch the races live. Very obviously you can get a much better feel for every race that way! There are no commercial breaks when listening in on the scanner as you know.

It's all good Schmoopy! :D
