Tony the title favorite?

I think he might be. Already has two wins this season at chase like tracks. Is on a roll right now, and is the defending series champion.

I looked down a list of drivers and I only see two real threat at the moment. Jimmie Johnson is consistent. But he wins at the abnormal track and doesn't like his team is good enough to win at the 1.5 milers. I don't think he is a serious threat. Greg Biffle has been fast and he may even finish top three in points. But I don't see him going anywhere higher.

I think Denny Hamlin is a serious threat. He seems rejuvenated and ready to win a championship. And despite him being a lame duck I think Matt Kenseth's is Tony's biggest threat. I see him going out on a bang.

I think Carl Edwards could even pull a Tony. Never count him out.

Anyway. It is looking good for Tony's title run this year. Fourth championship anyone?

I think Tony is a favorite, I would never ever count him out. If the way he has been running is any indication, the rest of them should all go home!! I also think Carl is laying in the weeds, but if he is going to compete in the chase he needs to at least get in. Time is running out.

I think he is the third serious title contender. He has been the most consistent driver this year easily. Sonoma was his first finish outside the top 20. And he has finished on the lead lap in all the races this season. He has finally broken through and I think he is going to win at least one more race maybe two more.

I think the top five in points will be this at season's end

Tony Stewart
Carl Edwards
Matt Kenseth
Denny Hamlin
Dale Earnhardt Jr

He now has had his win and has nothing to drive for...for another 143 races. The last race he finished 23rd.

I dont think he is a favorite. I still believe it will either be Kenseth or Denny.
But then again I didnt think Smoke was a favorite last year either.
BTW JJ is running on all cylinders so he should always be a anme as a favorite until they have some kinda turmoil.
So one of those three will win it. Not Smoke (IMO)

You may not not consider Tony the favorite. But you can't say he isn't a favorite. To me that makes no sense. Tony is the defending champion and looks to be on his normal summer roll. He will be considered a favorite until he is mathematically knocked out.

he is more than capable of winning it no doubt. But then again when the Chase starts what you just said applies to Martin truex as well. Until they are mathematically eliminated, they can win the championship.

I don't even think Martin Truex Jr is going to make the chase. But say he does. On paper he has as good of a chance as anyone. But let's be real. A driver with one career win and hasn't won a race in five years (188 races) isn't going to have the same chances as the guy who set chase records last year. There are usually say six to seven drivers that can win the title and the rest are just there. When Jeremy Mayfield and Brian Vickers made it those are great examples of drivers who made the chase but were never really considered contenders.

Tony is one of the drivers that you never count out for a championships. He showed that last year. Johnson is too. I am not counting him out. But he seems to lack that overall speed on tracks that make up the chase (except for Texas and Dover).

I will give you that. Tony is one of 6 or 7 drivers that can win the championship
