I'm Looking For Team/Racing Consistency With The #39!

What any fan wants/demands to see week to week is CONSISTENCY in his/hers favorite(in this case) race driver/team. All it takes is one "bad link" in the racing chain and the day is pretty much over! Then you have to consider those un-known racing things such as electrical/mechanical errors.

This sport is very humbling. Win the race last last weekend......DNF the next! It's this broad range of emotions that get us all "fired up" from week to week. So, in knowing that. Don't be so closed minded to think anyone is being "negative" when commenting on a race. He or she just spent 3-4 hours watching this event!

What I'm looking for is consistency from my favorite race team. As I'm sure the race team is as well. When I don't see that. It has me wondering who's NOT doing the job properly? I will leave it at that.

None of us will ever know what it's like running a Nascar race team so look at it as just one man's or woman's opinion and nothing more. It's just that I'm a Ryan Joseph Newman fan and want to see him win a Nascar Championship that will NEVER happen unless things get much.....much better! ;)

Please interject your comments if you care to......... :D

Re: I'm Looking For Team/Racing Consistency With The #39!

I think this new car has leveled the playing field somewhat, so now more factors come into playing field. The last seven championships are held by two men, Tony and Jimmie. Are the lucky or are they good? Maybe a little of both. JMO I think those two have an ability to make things happen. They step up their game. They dig down deep and will it to happen. Denny Hamlin eluded to this just after his grandmother died, in that he found he had something extra he had never used. That something almost won him a Championship. Now I am not saying that the other drivers don't have it, maybe they just haven't found it or used it yet. Also, equipment, teams, fuel, tires, weather, health, family, colors on cars , debris, NASCAR rules and officials, sponsorship, all play a part.
I have also noticed, another something, that during a contract signing year drivers seem to win more races, not all but some. Especially if they are driving to keep their ride. It is a lot harder to win a race , let alone a championship.

Yes, the consistency would be nice. Consistency like Ryan had in 2003 (his second full season).

I'm no mathematician and haven't tried figuring it out but I have to think that under the current scoring system, Ryan had to have been close to winning the championship.

Poles 11, Wins 8, Top 5's 17, Top 10's 22

Matt Kennseth, the 2003 champion:
Poles 0, Wins 1, Top 5's 11, Top ten's 25

The 39 has shown in past seasons that they can have a string on consistent runs, a string of inconsistent runs, and all that is in-between. That falls on the crew chief Tony Gibson. Steve Addington and Zippy have helped Gibson thus far, but he had to figure something out on the 1.5 milers. They do run rather well at Charlotte though. Gibson's speciality are the smaller tracks. Notice how strong they are at Bristol, Richmond, Martinville, Loudon, and Phoenix. If Gibson can figure these bigger tracks fully out they'll be okay. Ryan does have a win at the next two tracks.
Cup: 14, 1, 29, 88, 99, 11, 17, 39, 15, 5, 2, 16
NW: 7, 31, 3, 11, 60, 88, 12
Trucks: 9, 88, 3, 7, 17, 31
IRL: 10, 11, 12, 26, 3, 38, 27

But 1.5 mile tracks are what make up the majority of the Cup circuit. If they don't run good on the 1.5 mile tracks, their season is doomed.

I remember that year very well. Newman was awarded, Speed Channels "Driver Of The Year" that year. Newman fever was on high. It was Penske's first year back with the Dodge Intrepid. 8-)

The very next year........they went into a racing coma! Then in 2005, they brought out the el-crappy Dodge Charger with it's aero un-friendly nose. Nobody could balance those pigs....other than Kasey Kahne's race team. That's been Newman's karma ever since. :?

i know mine is a blanker statement, and is usually something i say every week, but the 39 will never be consistent unless they have a strong minded CC on the box.

We have already seen that movie haven't we? ;)

Gald to see you posting jamo14. It's kind of lonely here at times. I guess winning would cure that or at least consistent top 5's-10's maybe? 8-)

Could be MJ?

I'm not sure half the time what Team #39 needs. All I know is from what I see on race day and it's not often very impressive. It certainly isn't the race car chassis/engines or driver so what's left? Oh let's see......pit crew/crew chief/fab shop and all shop employees/owners/management/fans/sponsors/Nascar/tire company(Goodyear)an Ohio based company thank you......did I miss anyone?

It takes a lot of people to make these cars go fast so I think it runs deeper than the CC but what do I know. I'm just another "arm chair" fan! :D
