You have got to be kidding, me! Typical!! Look at the relationship between Hendrick and this idiot! Chad will be unbearable to live with!
If nothing wrong was done, then why fine Chad? This is absolutely the most stupid, stupid thing that could have happened.

CUP: Hendrick Wins Last Appeal
Jimmie Johnson will have his team intact...
Tom Jensen | Posted March 20, 2012 Charlotte, NC

Rick Hendrick has won 10 championships as a Sprint Cup Series team owner.
NASCAR chief appellate officer John Middlebrook today overturned NASCAR penalties levied against the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team for illegal C-posts discovered during pre-qualifying inspection for the Daytona 500.

The means Jimmie Johnson’s crew chief, Chad Knaus, and car chief, Ron Malec, will not face six-week suspensions and Jimmie Johnson will not lose 25 points. In Knaus’ case, the $100,000 fine still stands, the only part of the penalty left intact.

The ruling was a huge victory for Hendrick Motorsports in its second and final appeal. Last week, the National Stock Car Racing Commission denied the first appeal and today was Hendrick’s last chance.

The original penalty ruling was that the No. 48 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the rule book or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); and 20-2.1E (if in the judgment of NASCAR officials, any part or component of the car not previously approved by NASCAR that has been installed or modified to enhance aerodynamic performance will not be permitted – unapproved car body modifications).

Knaus and Malec originally were each suspended for six Sprint Cup races and Knaus was fined $100,000.

Driver Jimmie Johnson and car owner Jeff Gordon were penalized with the loss of 25 driver and 25 owner points, respectively.

But those penalties are now history and the team will face no sanctions.

I say Hoo-rah! For the Hendrick Team lawyers! This had 'RAILROAD' written all over it.

Mr. Middlebrook has restored some faith back into me, for this sport being handled fairly. :-)

yep... Ryan at -39 behind leader at 12th place

JJ was at -61. Add 25 to -61 = -36

So JJ goes in at 12th and Ryan down to 13th :-(

Sad for Ryan, tho....

For Jeff fans -

he was at -72 - - - -23rd place.... add 25 to -72 and you get -47 from leader and 14th place in pts

Re: JMO........but.......

Im goin to give JJ a lil benefit of doubt here (whether i think he deserves it or not is not the issue) and say he should have received the pt reduction only because the governing body would be hard pressed to prove he had intent or knowledge of the infraction......but Chad on the other hand is a whole diff story....HE is the CC of that team...the boss basically...he had intent to put that car on the track...he may have been exonerated by RH's "friend" but in the eyes of fans that felt him a habitual cheater will not change.....in fact they will think even less of him now.....IMO!!!!!

I wholehearted agree. Obviously Rick went in and threw his NASCAR muscle around.

Re: JMO........but.......

John Middlebrook is a former GM higher up. Take that for what it's worth. Idc anymore it's not like JJ wasn't going to get those points back regardless. Brian France, Mike Helton, John Darby and Robin Pemberton are #### I know that. Basically the 48 can do whatever they want.

Chad will certainly have his swagger back in Cali this weekend. He and MJ both will be hard to live with.

Re: JMO........but.......

SmoKie 14 the owners points returned to the 48 have nothing to do with the 24, except that Jeff Gordon owns it. Every car has owners points and drivers points. NASCAR never took any points away from 24.

Re: JMO........but.......

I think people did know this would happen. When I read a story doing quotes of Hendricks I firmly believed most of this would be wiped away or split in half. What convinced me was the fact Hendricks and the person to be the ruling judge of this have been friends for over 20 years and this was something he could depend on. But should we have been surprised as big Daddy Hendricks got a presidential pardon for his felonys so let Chad get away with bull.... Nascar should have waited to do inspection after the car was into race inspection and then hit them. Chad will not quit doing this as his #### head will be huge. NASCAR gets the $100,000 and the 48 team can laugh their butts off. I'd kick the judge off the list as I'm sure he and Rick already had this hatched up.
I can't even think about this anymore as it makes me so angry I could scream.
