DVR or No DVR??

There was a time when I used to sit in front of a TV and watch the full 3 to 4 hour broadcast of a NASCAR race. Now that DVR's have come along, I seldom do that any more. However, this Sunday was different, I decided i was going to watch the Daytona 500. For the most part, I enjoyed it, as Ryan was doing so well, at least until the final 3 laps. Ryan once again got caught up in someone elses mess. So frustrating for me, no doubt even more frustrating for Ryan and the Army team.
As I sat there, in disbelief, I decided that from now on I will go back to recording the race. You can fast forward passed the endless commercials and you can 2x speed the regular laps to get to the interesting "game changing" moments of the race. Best of all I don't have to sit there and listen to DW's "I give all my love to Hendrick" mouth throwing love to the Hendrick teams the entire race. I do not like him as a commentator much he's to partial to certain teams. A 4 hour race becomes a 1 hour race, with the same outcome.

Anyway, I'm curious as to how many of you actually sit and watch the entire broadcast every Sunday vs. record it and watch after the fact?

I watch every race if I'm near a TV. I'm one of those rare old fogy's that doesn't even own a DVR. I know, I'm out of touch with the modern world.

God dammit this site wipes out so many of my posts (especially the long ones) where I just say screw it & dont post at all. Anyways let me try this again.

I watch all the races live. Unless I am at a track myself. When I watch the races live, I also listen to Ryans radio live. (well it is about a lap behind) So even during commercials I can still hear Ryans radio & keep track of how he is doing with Pit Command. Pit Command allows me to see how ryan is doing compared to those around him. Pit Command is actually ahead of the tv set. It will show when a yellow comes out before the wreck happens on TV. So I can watch through his times Ryans trends through the race, whether his car is better at the beginning or doesnt fall off as much as those around him later in the runs. I sit there & think of how I would stratergize for Ryan if I were there, using his radio & the pit command (plus whatever few times they show Ryan on TV) Now sometimes it is much more stresssful to me listening to Gibson, & some of his decisions, when they differ from mine. I know they are professionals & much more qualified than me, but you would laugh if you seen me at home listening in & freaking out on what I would consider the wrong move. LOL Honestly the races go by much faster to me for some reason this way, than most complain about how long it is. I couldnt do any of this if I watched it on DVR. The only times I dont watch the race live is if I am actually at a race track, or coming home from one (when we travel)
If you involve yourself in the race somehow (rooting for a guy & rooting against one) I would bet the race wouldnt seem as long for you either. Like I said I am still apart of the race even during commercials.

On several forums besides this one, I have gotten in the habit of BEFORE I HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON, highlighting the text I have just typed and hitting Ctrl+C to copy it to the Windows clipboard. That way, if my post blows up, I can start a new post and hit Ctrl+V to paste my text into the message box.

Like I said this has happened to me on other boards so I have learned the hard way.

I don't now have a DVR either. I still use a VCR...yes a VCR. But, I'm going dish here very soon and in the offer I will have a DVR! I know, after the offer is over, dish is just as expensive as cable.

I have to work every Sunday till 4:00PM so I will miss a majority of races. I need a DVR!

I use to have the audio stuff from nascar.com but it's not worth it having to work every Sunday. The delay drove me nuts too.

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love my DVR. Can't go on without it, but that's mainly for the non-live shows or the shows that are on when I'm not home. For any race or sporting event, I just feel as if it isn't the same not watching it live. I don't know why, maybe because I then know for certain that my screaming at the TV won't work.

Race Days are visiting days with next door neighbors. Huge TV, open bar and food. We all take turns bringing food around. They are race fanatics too and big Tony fans. So we have a lot of fun, good conversation and enjoy watching the races together. Makes for a real enjoyable day.

if i can watch the race, i will, its not important if i miss a race here and there, especially during the summer months, i have dvr so i will try using it so im not a slave to the tv....

I have an added feature, I have speakers throught the house. I DVR every race, some I watch live, like Sunday, some I miss the beginning and can FF through the slow parts to catch up and some I listen to while spending time in other parts of the house (the 'puter is in another part of the house) Sometimes I even watch in the basement between switching laundry from the washer to dryer. I've got it all covered so I never miss a race!

No DVR for me. I try to watch every race, unless we happen to be traveling home from a trip during race day.

I've got a VCR, does that count

I don't hve a DVR but have the VCR. I never tape a race. If I miss one I figure I can live without it. The one piece of tape I do have is of Mike Skinner. He was involved in an accident and when he got out of his car he was dizzy and was wobbly. He started toward the cement inside wall and fell head first into it. He did have a helmet on and wasn't hurt. It was one of those things you had to see it to comment on it. The medics never did get to him.

Typically I can watch the race on Monday or Tuesday if I should miss it on the SPEED CHANNEL.

I DVR every race. If I am at home I am typically working online and have NASCAR Lap leader board and the Lap by Lap info behind my work and I refer to this every few minutes. Then that night, I go back and watch the race and fast forward through the boring parts. I love having a race on DVR though because you can go back over and over again on interesting parts and analyze wrecks, etc. I used to have the driver scanner going on while I work but it got to be too confusing (I'm a medical transcriptionist and work from home and every time Ryan or Tony would come across the scanner, it would scare the shitt out of me as I'd be concentrating on my work.) LOL...

So yes, I LOVE DVRing the races. And since I know NO ONE else who loves racing as much as I do (including my family of all men) I watch it all by myself on Sunday nights after I already know the outcome. I need more friends! At least NASCAR friends!
