We all know Ryan has the talent, but since Matt Borland stepped down as his crew chief on the 12 car. Ryan and Matt are both engineers, and they spoke each others language. They worked well together. Since Matt left it has been next to impossible to pair Ryan w/ a C.C. that understands him. His career has been going down hill ever since. Maybe this is one time his degree is a bad thing, because it makes him smarter than his team members lol
Ryan's very best year was 2004 with the Dodge Intrepid. Eight wins eleven poles!
Remember the 2005 switch to the Dodge Charger with all it's areo problems with that nose pitch. Almost all Dodge teams stunk it up with that Charger! Newman was the product at that time of an aerodynamic race car flaw and his patented bad luck!
Now he has super good equipment that his CC/Team can't seem to balance for the life of them. Then throw in all the mistakes that happen with regularity. It's no wonder!
Like I have said many times. Ryan is a multimillionaire. He doesn't have to work another day the rest of his life so he's just "riding the wave" as long as he can regardless of Championship wins or not!
I really hope you are wrong about that, after all these years, and God only knows how many hundreds of dollars invested in him I hope the #### he is not just "riding the wave". I really don't think he is though. If he was he wouldn't get aggravated when the crew messes up, He wouldn't try so hard to do sooo much w/ a car that will not go. I think Ryan still gives it his all each and every week, however I feel like Mr. Gibson figures since the 39 made the Chase (all thanks to Ryan getting more out of the car than what the car was really capable of getting) that now his job is safe so he can sit back and relax.
"He makes me look thinner" Tony on why he picked Ryan to be his team mate. bet he's gonna enjoy his fair share of Krissie's cookies every weekend lol
