Is this the season of missed opportunities?

Man were into the season deep and Tony has had so many wins (The Daytona 500, Phoenix, LAS VEGAS, Texas, Kansas), slip away and top fives like Darlington, Michigan, Sonoma and last night at Kentucky slip away. He could very well be leading the points or be in the top five if he had been able to put a whole race together. I just really hope this team gets consistent really soon. He is 11th in points and as of now is in the chase and is close to being in the top ten (Jr and Bowyer are starting to fade).

Re: Is this the season of missed opportunities?

If a guy races long enough, he'll have seasons like this. Thing is, they've figured out nearly every stupid way to lose a race. Eventually they'll run out, and hopefully then the checkered flags'll come.

It's been a weird season for most teams. I mean the 48 is about two inches from being winless and we're in July. Yes it'd be nice to celebrate a win, but at least we know they've been capable, the victories are hopefully on the horizon, and the 14 isn't the only team that's dealt with it.

Re: Is this the season of missed opportunities?

They have run well. It's not like they are running 10th-15th every race. It's frustrating now because they are a top 5-8 car consistently, yet finish around 10-13th. But I'd rather have them run well and finish worse then run bad and finish where they should. They will be going to New Hampshire next week, and that is a track where Tony runs very well at. Really, this team needs a top-5 there. Opportunity is knocking with guys ahead of them struggling at the moment. They need to capitalize.

Re: Is this the season of missed opportunities?

Yes, this season has been the season of missed opportunities, but to think Tony is competitive right now is crazy. Yes, last night he had a top 5 car, and maybe at Pocono, Sonoma and Kansas you could say the same thing. But really, he hasn't been competitive in any other race since early on in the season. Even Texas, he wasn't a contender until they played the fuel mileage game. He was average at Michigan, not very good at Daytona, not good on the short tracks, not good at Charlotte, not good at Dover, not good at Talladega, etc. Tony needs to address the crew chief position, and fast. Not only does the crew chief produce less than adequate cars, but his in race decision making is down right putrid. With any lesser of a driver than Tony, the #14 car would be out of the top 20 in points.

1 Top five ad six top tens sickens me because the results don't tell the whole story. Not sure what this team can do to get everything on track. I know Tony is not happy with this.
