Cole Custer Career Highlights

2020

  • Finished 16th in NASCAR Cup Series championship standings in his first season of full-time competition. Scored one win, earned two top-five and seven top-10 finishes, and led five laps.
  • Earned first career NASCAR Cup Series win July 12 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Became one of just 10 drivers who have won a race in all three of NASCAR’s national touring series – Cup, Xfinity and Truck – as well as ARCA and a NASCAR developmental series (K&N Pro Series).
  • Made NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs in his rookie season and was the only rookie of the 2020 class to earn a playoff spot.
  • Earned 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the year.

2019

  • Finished runner-up in NASCAR Xfinity Series championship in his third season of full-time competition. Scored seven wins, earned 17 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes, won six poles and led 922 laps.
  • Made NASCAR Playoffs and advanced all the way to the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the second straight year. Finished second in winner-take-all race Nov. 16.
  • Seven Xfinity Series wins were a career high and the second-most all season. Scored victories March 16 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California; April 12 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway; June 1 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway; June 29 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois; July 12 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta; Aug. 31 at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway; and Oct. 5 at Dover (Del.) International Speedway.
  • Six Xfinity Series poles tied a career high and tied for most all season. Earned poles April 6 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway; May 4 at Dover; June 1 at Pocono; June 16 at Iowa Speedway in Newton; July 20 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon; and Sept. 14 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

2018

  • Finished runner-up in NASCAR Xfinity Series championship in his second season of full-time competition. Scored one win, earned 14 top-five and 26 top-10 finishes, won six poles and led 389 laps.
  • Made NASCAR Playoffs and advanced all the way to the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Finished second in winner-take-all race Nov. 17 at Homestead after leading twice for a race-high 95 laps while sweeping the first two stages.
  • With his second-place finish at Homestead, Custer clinched Stewart-Haas Racing with Biagi-DenBeste’s (SHR) first Xfinity Series owners’ championship in just its second full season.
  • Earned second career Xfinity Series win Nov. 4 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Victory placed Custer into the Championship 4 for the first time in his career.
  • Earned first career Xfinity Series pole April 14 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. This was also SHR’s first Xfinity Series pole.
  • Six poles were the most among Xfinity Series drivers. Poles were earned April 14 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, April 20 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, June 2 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, July 13 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Sept. 15 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Nov. 17 at Homestead.
  • Twenty-six top-10s were the most among Xfinity Series drivers.
  • Earned the most points at 1.5-mile tracks (369) among Xfinity Series drivers.
  • Earned the best average starting position (5.9) among Xfinity Series drivers.

2017

  • Finished fifth in the NASCAR XFINITY Series standings in his first season of full-time competition and competed through the second round of XFINITY Series Playoffs.
  • Competed as the youngest driver in the XFINITY Series Playoffs at 19 years and 9 months old.
  • Scored one win, seven top-five finishes, 19 top-10s and led 301 total laps.
  • Finished third in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings while achieving 10 rookie of the race awards.
  • Earned the most points at 1.5-mile tracks among XFINITY Series drivers with 422 total points.
  • Scored first XFINITY Series victory Nov. 18 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Earned a perfect driver rating of 150.0 after winning Stage 1 & 2 and the race victory. He was the only driver to earn such a feat in the 2017 NASCAR XFINITY series season.
  • Competed in one ARCA Series race at Road America on August 27.
  • Made full-time XFINITY Series debut with Stewart-Haas Racing on February 25.

2016

  • Finished 10th in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings in his first season of full-time competition. Scored five top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.
  • Captured two Truck Series poles: Sept. 3 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada and Oct. 22 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
  • Twice earned a season-best finish of second place – at Iowa Speedway in Newton on June 18 and Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sept. 4.
  • Started five NASCAR XFINITY Series races with his best finish being a fourth-place effort at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway on May 28.
  • Made XFINITY Series debut on April 23 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, where he finished sixth after starting 17th.
  • Became the youngest pole winner in ARCA Racing Series history at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Feb. 12.

2015

  • Competed in 10 Truck Series races. Scored one win, two top-five and four top-10 finishes.
  • Captured Truck Series pole Oct. 31 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
  • Became the youngest superspeedway winner in ARCA Racing Series history at Pocono (Pa.) International Raceway on Aug. 1. The win came in Custer’s third ARCA Series start.
  • Won Truck Series race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois on June 13. It was Custer’s second Truck Series win.
  • Made ARCA Series debut May 24 at New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, where he finished fifth after starting from the pole.

2014

  • Competed in nine Truck Series races. Scored one win, two top-five finishes and six top-10s.
  • Scored first career Truck Series victory Sept. 20 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon from the pole. At 16 years, 7 months and 28 days, Custer became the youngest race winner in NASCAR national series history.
  • Became the youngest pole winner in national touring series history at 16 years, 4 months and 22 days at Gateway on June 14. The pole came in Custer’s third Truck Series start.
  • Made Truck Series debut March 30 at Martinsville, where he finished 12th.
  • Competed in a combined 10 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West races and scored two wins, four top-fives and four top-10s.
  • Won two Pro Series races: Feb. 27 at Phoenix International Raceway and April 26 at Richmond.

2013

  • Finished eighth in Pro Series East point standings in his first season of full-time competition. Scored two wins, five top-five and six top-10 finishes.
  • Won Pro Series East race at New Hampshire on Sept. 21 from the pole. It was Custer’s second Pro Series East win.
  • Scored first career Pro Series East victory Aug. 2 at Iowa Speedway in Newton from the pole. At 15 years, 6 months and 10 days, became the youngest winner in Pro Series history. In addition to breaking Dylan Kwasniewski’s youngest race-winner’s age record by nearly six months, Custer also became the first driver to lead every lap in the combination race.
  • Captured two Pro Series East poles: Aug. 2 at Iowa and Sept. 21 at New Hampshire.
  • Competed in two Pro Series West races.
  • Captured one Pro Series West pole Nov. 8 at Phoenix.

2012

  • Competed in Late Model Stock Cars, winning 10 races, including his first start at I-10 Speedway in Blythe, California.

2011

  • Won 15 races in 22 starts on his way to winning the 2011 United States Auto Club (USAC) National Focus Young Guns Championship.

2010

  • Competed in USAC Midgets and Legend Cars.

2009

  • Competed in Quarter Midgets and Legend Cars.
  • Earned Quarter Midget championships in Sr. Honda and Sr. Stock divisions.

2008

  • Competed in Quarter Midgets at Orange Show, California.

2007

  • Competed in Quarter Midgets at Orange Show and Pomona Valley, California.

2006

  • Competed in Quarter Midgets at Pomona Valley.
  • Competed in select North Carolina Quarter Midget Association races, in the Jr. Honda and Jr. Stock series.

2005

  • Competed in Quarter Midgets at Pomona Valley, in the Jr. Novice and Jr. Honda series.
  • Won six races and the Jr. Novice Series championship.
