POST DOVER RACE CHAT

Here we go again folks! Team #39 missed the set up so badly that Newman goes 2 laps down. This in my opinion is unexceptionable!

I also thought the race was dreadfully boring because so many teams also missed their set ups as well.

I have commented on Tony's inability to get a mediocre car balance for Newman so he can be at least competitive at ALL tracks. Tony is either hit....or miss! :?

Team #39 unloaded at this track in position 28 but improved to position 12. Watching your long time favorite driver getting passed by the much weaker organizations at a track he likes and normally does well at is disturbing. :?

As always I will have to wait and see the post interviews to see "what went wrong." I get so tired of Newman's "blanket" answer so he sounds nice to his fledgling race team as,"We didn't have the finish we wanted today but we fought back Army strong." I would rather Ryan just tell it like it is and not worry about toting the company line. That way we can go,"Ok" and move on! :)

Your opinions please if any...................

Re: POST DARLINGTON RACE CHAT

I agree that they need to find the answer to the "what went wrong" question. My concern is whether or not they have the right people on the team to correctly answer the question. More importantly, they need to be able to take that information and come up with specific changes to make.

I too get tired of the canned, "the team worked hard" answer, but he's not going to slam the team in public and I agree with that. I would really like to be a fly on the wall during their Monday post-race meetings back at SHR. That's where you'll hear the truth, I think, but we fans don't get to hear that.

This is what happens when a team doesn't know "what went wrong" and therefore has no solution! I know I'm just a "fan" and certainly don't know anything about running a race team. But, these are highly paid professionals and I would expect them to know.

Maybe I'm over-simplifying the complexity of setting up a race car, but that's how I see it.

And Tony's car was worse! So the #39 team couldn't get any helpful information from the #14 team. They had no answers either.

Guess I'm just frustrated that both teams missed it soooo badly. :( :x

EDIT: did you mean to title your blog Darlington rather than Dover? ;)

Re: POST DOVER RACE CHAT

I was glad to see Tony Gibson apologizing for his "totally blown" car set up for Newman. That was major refreshing! Been a fan way to long to know a bad set up when I see it.

Ok, I'm over it for now but I have Tony G. on a probation till he can prove to me he is a Nascar Cup Series professional crew chief. Ryan's had plenty of different crew chiefs in his career and I want Tony to succeed......."Show me the proper set ups!" :D

Re: POST DOVER RACE CHAT

Ryan said near the end of the race.
I have never worked so hard, for so little. CC responded with standard answer Blah blah blah.

At the end of the race he said
This is the worst race car I have ever had here. CC said he knows & apologized for missing it so bad. Ryan told him he wasnt trying to beat him up over it he was just saying.
I will have to admit, as crappy of cars Ryan gets sometimes, he keeps his cool very well. You may hear a cuss word here or there, but that is about it. I have heard Kyle Busch running 2nd & screaming tirades of F-Bombs berating his crew, that they all suck. So while I give Kudos to Ryan to keep calm, I sure hope some fire comes out behind closed doors. because I honestly think he might be to docile at times at the track.

they have had serious issues with the pit crew since day one of SHR and until they address this as a serious matter, they will continue to have these issues, and that is not bein negative, its the facts.

Honestly I think Ryan likes his guys, so he downplays the problems (I dont know this just guessing) With Tony starting to struggle might be the best thing for Ryan as strange as that sounds. If Tony struggles to long I guarentee something gets changed.

I'm not one to candy coat many issues concerning my chosen favorite driver of year 10!

Thanks for pointing that obvious problem MJ........his pit crew! How many times does Newman enter pit road and loose 10 spots? My gosh, is his entire pit crew senior citizens! :D

I don't mean to throw Tony Gibson "under the hauler" but I will because I can! :?

When Newman's team was being assembled I was one who was not all that fired up about Ryan getting Tony Gibson. Look at his past resume.........very mediocre. Newman needs a super sharp CC that will bounce ideas and be willing to go into those Nascar "grey areas" like Matt Borland did back in the day. I know, those type of CC are hard to find I realize that. In my opinion, the jury is still out on Tony and will remain that way till we see some consistence week to week.

Your right about Ryan's persona. He is a very mellow "boys just want to have fun" type of man. That's just Ryan. But, this is "big boy" racing at its highest level. Nice guys finish last in most cases. Nothing wrong with being buddy's with everyone in the shop/pit crew but does that soften your expectations on race day? I realize it's a juggling act for a Nascar driver. You have to keep everyone happy some how.

If Ryan has a burning desire in ever winning a Nascar Championship. He may have to step up "his" game and be a lot more assertive and demanding of his race team! 8-) Being nice wasn't Dale Seniors trade mark and it got him 7 Championships didn't it.......

I know HH, I thought about that comment and who it would offend.

Glad to see you're in good humor today. :D

It's been nothing but gloom and rain for months here in Ohio.

I don't spend as much time on this computer as I use to. Watching Newman struggle isn't new news and you have to come up with something to talk about? If I had Ryan's cell phone number, I could have plenty to talk about! :D

Re: POST DOVER RACE CHAT

I was not at all happy w/ the way Dover went for Ryan. Anyone who has been on here for a while knows I have never been one to type too highly of Mr. Gibson, and have done more than my fair share of calling for his replacement (Matt Boreland) I hafta say though so far this year I have been pretty pleased w/ the whole 39 team. Don't get me wrong there is always room for improvement, but comparing this season to the past two the 39 team has been pretty good. I mean we have what is it 5 top 5's, and 8 top 10's (and no doubt there would have been another top 5 or a top 10 at the very least had it not been for J.P.M. at Richmond). 11 races into the season and they only got what 5 top 5's all of last season. So though like I said there is room for improvement (#### even the 48 team can improve) they are doing pretty well. I am sure no one on the team Tony Gibson included are saying "Well we are doing good enough for me, no sence in trying harder." So Dover wasn't a great weekend, they cant all be good weeks. Like the saying goes "Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes your the bug" the 39 team just happened to be the bug this week. I would love to see Ryan out there dominating races week after week like he did back in the day, but he's gotta learn his crew. The team has gotten better every year, and it's better now than it ever has been. They will keep workin on it, and by the end of the season or by next season we will see the 39 kickin some tail. One f the reasons Ryan has fallen from grace is because of all the C.C. swapping, This is the longest he has been w/ one crew chief since Boreland left his 12 team. It has taken some time for them to get on the same page, but they are getting there, HAVE FAITH MY FRIENDS!!!!!
"He makes me look thinner" Tony on why he picked Ryan to be his team mate. bet he's gonna enjoy his fair share of Krissie's cookies every weekend lol

Hey MJ! Don't be shy, step up and be heard....even though you are a Johnson fan!  It's NOT being negative just because you are a demanding fan. We are simply saying what our driver can't! Is it "beating a dead horse" perhaps. Is it helpful, probably not but it sure makes you feel better!

Newman does have a pit crew problem. To me it should be all business. If they can't handle the job....SEE YOU! The Cup series of Nascar is all about perfection! I can tell you, Stewart won't tolerate it so why should Newman? :?

People have to understand. This is Newman's 11Th year in a stock car. Yes I know, it's his 10TH year in Cup. I don't want to see him fade away having a in-effective supporting cast. He's already been there and done all of that with Penske! 8-)
