A friend of mine that makes furniture said the only thing Pledge is good for is cleaning the bugs off the front of your car.

the initials BR are of a friend of JJ's that passed away, i wish i could remember the story right now, but drawing blanks, they put it on every car he drives, as far as i can remember it goes back to 2006.

You've probably never noticed the special decal on the front bumper of Jimmie Johnson's car, but there's a story behind it that makes every lap of today's race more meaningful for Johnson.

Here's the story.... The initials are BA501RH

On the front bumper is a flame with the initials BA and N501RH. Here's a picture of the decal I took before Sunday's race. The 501RH is the tail number of the Hendrick plane that crashed in 2004, killing all 10 aboard as they headed for the fall Martinsville race. The BA? That's for Blaise Alexander, a good friend of Johnson's, who died in a crash Oct. 4, 2001, at Charlotte Motor Speedway -- three days before Johnson made his Cup debut on the same track.

Shortly after Alexander's accident, a mutual friend of Johnson's and Alexander's worked in Johnson's Nationwide shop and came over to the Cup team with Johnson. That crew member would draw the design and the BA initials on the front bumper with a Sharpie on every one of Johnson's car as it was finished in the shop.

"It was like the final touch that went on (the car),'' Johnson said.

Why was the original tribute put on the front bumper, though?

“Blaise and I had a lot of good conversations about racing and we were both mid-packers in the Nationwide Series, having fun racing each other,’’ Johnson said. “We’d take a lot of pride out of who would beat one another to the start/finish line. It was my tribute when … to put him up there on the bumper and he’s essentially beat me across the finish line every time.

jdpirate thanks for posting that. Never heard it before. I thought Blaise Alexander had had a good future in Nascar . His loss was a shock.

No, I'm serious. He actually told me this.

Ok, now I'll have to try it myself..........

Yea, I remember when Blaise Alexander died at Charlotte. That was a sad night.
My wife and I had met and talked to him the previous November at the "Stock for Tots" in Mooresville.
Really nice guy. I always wonder how far he would have made it, had he lived.
