What makes a great race?

Dave Despain was talking about this Sunday night. It was a pretty decent discussion between him, Kyle Petty and Tommy Kendall. So what makes a great race to you?

To me it's a side by side finish. A dash to the line. Like Despain said there are only a few great races a year. So that is what keeps me watching every week. Anticipating great races like Watkins Glen or even Bristol last weekend.

Re: What makes a great race?

Watkins Glen and Bristol were great races......What would have better if the "14" would have been in the mix at the end of both...We will remember Watkins Glen for the " Invisible oil" and rain...... And Bristol for the "helmet throw seen around the world"......
I just hope the Best is yet to come and the 14, 39 and 10 are right there in the middle, fighting for the win!!!!!

Re: What makes a great race?

I didnt like the bristol race. Yes it brought back drama, but the racing wasnt racing as far as I am concerned.
I hope Denny is right. He said that the top groove was just so much better because they just grinded it so it held more rubber & the traction was so much better. As the track ages you would think the groove will come down some & then it might be a good "racing" track. of course then Burton will adjust the track again once that happens.

So far,Watkins Glen this year, other than that,i've seen better at the local Dirt Tracks.Demo derbys were never my thing so Bristol is out and the helmet made more news than anything else from the race.Ken Shrader made my night with his expression after Leffler got into him,my thoughts exactly Kenny-WTF?
