Who will be in the 22

So lets assume that AJ was taking some sort of no no drug and gets suspended indefinitely. I am pretty sure Roger Penske would fire him. Who would replace him?

Prospects
Sam Hornish Jr
Joey Logano (if there isn't going to be a fourth Gibbs car)
Justin Allgaier
Trevor Bayne
Cole Whitt
David Ragan

Matt Clark speculated that Kurt Busch could take over Ryan's ride and Ryan go back to Penske. I don't see Ryan wanting back in though and I doubt they would get back together but who knows.

I personally think Hornsh Jr will take it over for the rest of the year and if he does a good enough job it s his for 2013.

Re: Who will be in the 22

Hornish will probably get the ride and that is a shame as either Bayne or Ragan would be fun to watch mature into great drivers. AJ was cited for a DUI sometime back when he drove for RPR. I guess it scared him and he promised he'd never get into a situation like that again. This time they are calling it a drug test and that will probably be tougher to explain. He has a super ride so why do something like drugs to mess up his life.

Re: Who will be in the 22

Ragan had a shot at the ride. They open wheelers stick together. I don't think too highly of Ragan. But he would have been better than Allmendinger.

I would like to see Allgaier come back to Penske and be given a shot at Cup.

AJ is doing his dammest to ruin his chance at Penske.

Re: Who will be in the 22

If it does come to that, I agree Sam would be given the chance to finish the year. I'd like to see that as I like Sam (my mother-in-law is acquainted with his family and I've heard nothing but good things) and I was sorry for him that his previous Cup experience didn't go well. To be honest I'm not sure how much better it might go this time, but I'd like to see him have the chance.

During the off season I was pulling for David Ragan to get that ride. I thought he'd shown enough potential. I wouldn't mind seeing him have the chance either.

For 2013, not sure what would be most likely. I guess it really depends on how this season turns out and how many players are involved (is Joey a possibility, Ryan, etc?)

Re: Who will be in the 22

Since I don't want to go down the road of who would replace AJ, I'm still hoping AJ will stay. As I understand the drug list, there are legal medications on the list, but the driver must notify NASCAR they have been prescribed the drug. If that is the case, maybe all AJ will have to do is memorize the list. But then, NASCAR has been pretty tight lipped about the contents of that list.

We don't need another Jeremy Mayfield situation. I'm always glad when I see that individuals have completed the requirements and are reinstated.

Re: Who will be in the 22

I think Hornish would be the no brainer. Penske already said he planned on brining Hornish back to cup. I think Hornish might have gotten stuck down in NW until they could go three teams if all things worked out with the Dinger, so that is who I would think would take over the 22.

Re: Who will be in the 22

I don't care for Sam at all. He has only 1 win in all the races he's run. If he can't win in NW, why would you put him in a Cup car? As far as I'm concerned, he had his chance. All he did was wreck in Cup and take out a lot of cars.

If AJ doesn't come back, give the ride to Trevor. That's what I'd like to see, especially since they'll be in Fords next year.

That's just my opinion and I have the right to be an idiot from time to time :D

Re: Who will be in the 22

Sam got rushed to Cup. Roger put him in Cup after only seven nationwide races. He was pretty much set for failure. He doesn't have many nationwide start so for him to have a win is pretty good. Justin Allgaier only has two wins.

I think he deserves a second chance. The guy is a great driver. He is showing that in the nationwide series right now he is a title contender.

Though I think it would be awesome if Trevor got into the 22. But he only has one nationwide win so he wouldn't worthy though would he?

Re: Who will be in the 22

Roger is too classy not to give a guy who has won so much for him every single chance to succeed. Sam has earned it.
