Richard Petty Motorsports asserted its commitment to winning with the hiring of Chase-proven Mike Ford as crew chief for the #43 team and driver Aric Almirola. The veteran crew chief joins the team after leading Denny Hamlin's #11 team to six straight post-season appearances in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Ford will join the team immediately and will be atop the pit box in Talladega. The 42-year-old Morristown, Tenn., native spent the past six seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing as Hamlin's crew chief. In that span, he led his team to 17 wins, 66 top-five finishes and 108 top-10 finishes and never missed a Chase appearance. The 12-year Sprint Cup veteran also previously held crew chief roles for Dale Jarrett at Robert Yates Racing and Bill Elliott at Evernham Motorsports. Ford replaces Greg Erwin, who joined the team in mid-2011.(Richard Petty Motorsports)(4-30-2012)
Boy the Newman fans are going to be furious now.
But seriously Greg Irwin is a good crew chief, won a good amount of races with Biffle and finished 3rd in points in 2008. But they lost something last year and now this. I like Mike Ford and Aric will get along well, Aric was at JGR when Mike was there.

im not furious, a team noticed things were not right and made a change, if the bosses to be at SHR think everything is hunky dory, well they know more than any of us. i may not agree with how things are going, but it is what it is...

Well RPM was reading my mind regarding Mike Ford. When I thought of availability and drive for Ryan I thought Ford would be great. Too bad he is taken now. Just because he and Denny broke up doesn't mean he is damaged goods. I wish him the best of luck.

At this point in the season it isn't about being furious. Just sad.
I think most of us know as long as Ryan is in contention, there wont be any major changes to the team. He is stuck in mediocrity.
Good move by RPM though. I still think Mike Ford is one of the better CC's out there.
Doesnt look good for Irwin though, losing his job two years in a row.
