To me, this past 6 weeks is the strongest I can remember this 39 team ever running, it all seemed to happen after the announcement he was being let go. Hard to compare him now to his Penske days. He was always running for pole back then but as the years went on the car fell back in the race. It is opposite with SHR. It really is a shame Borland wasn't with him years prior. There were flashes of being real good at times notably in 2011 but it never lasted too long. From a power-ranking point of view against the strength of other teams/drivers I would compare this season to his 2005 year though.
I can assure you 8ballin. If Tony Gibson was still running this race team. Newman wouldn't even get a "sniff" at this years Championship! This year has been all Matt and driver Ryan J. Newman!
