I do not see one good reason she is on the team. I don't believe she can offer anything to improve the team. Only thing she really brings is more media attention. WOW there's a girl racecar driver!!! WOO HOO....... I have been coming to realize lately that Danica may be the only female in Nascar racing, but she's not the only driver at SHR with a vagina. ....
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Don't forget, she's a rookie
, and as much as it pains me to say it, one who's not on a very good team at the moment either.
Just a couple career highlights to argue the point....
She's the most successful woman to ever drive American open wheel racing. She's also the first woman to lead a lap at Indy. Yeah, her leading was do to pit-stop cycling, but she had the fastest times in practice that weekend and if not for one error on a turn in qualifying, she would have had the pole there. She took home a 3rd place finish at Indy in '09, the highest ever by a female. She's the only female w/ a win in the IRL too. She also holds the record of ANY driver in the IRL for most consecutive running finishes at 50...besting 2nd by 18. She was also rookie of the year in '05, finishing 4th at Indy that year...IRL just doesn't give these things away because you can sell merchandise.
Daytona...only woman to ever win a pole (and really, drove the best line of any qualifier in doing so) and lead a lap in Cup series there. IMO, if she jumps low in front of Johnson (I think?) near the end of the race, she has a legitimate chance of winning the race. No one knew they could pass there that day though, so you can't really blame her for not going for it. She was 3rd on the white flag, got passed by a few, but still had the highest female finish ever in 8th. Not too bad for a rookie.
One last thing, her road course race in Wisconsin. She was on her way to a 4th place finish until Jacques Villianazz spun her off the course. That race was just impressive by her.
Are you really saying that someone who had only been in Nationwide racing for 2 years and managed to pull off this kind of a race, on that road course, is someone who can't drive? You'll never sell me on that.
Most people just don't like her because she's either...
a) a female
b) uses her looks
...say what you want, but her career says otherwise.
As far as Tony...he's got a couple Cup's at home. You can't win them every year. Johnson probably thought he could, but Tony ended that. Jus' sayin' (MJ
