POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

Well, I saw enough cars being taken out to the point I kind if got excited. I thought Newman has a chance!

I swear I saw Newman pit like P3...and came out P12! Are you serious? Come on pit crew dang! :?

BUT, as Newman's luck would have it. He rides the bumper of the #18 and takes himself out! Come on Ryan! :x

Now Newman has a target on his car from the #18 as Kyle said in his own words,"He's got one coming!"
What ever..............

Congrats to the #17! 8-)

Well, the Tony Gibson legacy is over for the #39........thanks S/H!

P.S. Was NOT a good day for 2 of the 3 S/H cars! I know, there's always next week! :)

Yea MJ. Ryan being aggressive never pays off for him. Other drivers can turn and burn at ease but Newman........just doesn't have that kind of luck! :?

His pit crew was slacking badly from my point of view. Ryan was loosing track position like crazy! Then his usual "stuck in the middle" of the pack routine was as per usual after teasing us all with a possible top 10 maybe?

Oh well!

Re: POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

That one stop people seem to be referring to was when they took on 4 tires when the whole top 10 coming out of pits took on two tires. And then there were a few cars that stayed out at that point, so he went from 3rd to like 13th or something.

Unfortunately, they never regained ground after that. At the time I thought it was an OK call, but obviously looking back it was the wrong call.

Ryan I hate to say it but he took himself out in a similar fashion that Danica did herself. Trying to take out a guy and destroying his own car in the process. I didn't think what Kyle did to him was that bad, but he seemed to be blocking over-aggressively considering his tires were done at the time.

Unfortunate as it was probably going to be a top 10. Looks like he had a top 5 or 6 car though actually.

Re: POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

Appreciate the honesty here admitting Ryan made a mistake putting himself out of the race like the other SHR driver. The difference is if I might suggest--the first SHR driver to take herself out is actually fairly new to Cup and Nascar in general and can be called a dumb move but still part of a learning curve--but still--dumb. However Ryan is a very experienced driver and surprising to see Ryan make a mistake like that as he rarely does, but all drivers do it at some point when their patience runs out. All in all a bad day for SHR but a 5th for Tony isnt bad but wont help him much in the chase.

I will always "shoot you straight" on this blog racer1! :D

I'm a die hard Newman fan but when he makes a mistake as a driver. I will "call him out" regardless! Only the Nascar drivers have to be politically correct....us fans don't. ;)

Honestly race1. I think Ryan was trying something that failed miserably but he took the risk anyway. I guess it's the gambler in these drivers! :)

Re: POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

Ryan was pi$$ed at that point of the race. kasey I guess drove him him down to the grass blocking him on a restart. to the point Ryan said tell the 5 he has one comin'!!! I dont care if we are teammates or not!

Then during several Cautions I guess brad wasnt keeping up with traffic turning offf his car & ryan the 56 & other teams were complaining he wasnt keeping up & was asking Nascar to do something about it. Well during ryans last caution he told his spotter to tell nascar to do something about the 2 car or he would just put him in the wall. he said I can control this situation. Where they came back & told Ryan that nascar warned the 2 car if he continues it would cost him a lap. But Ryan wouldnt let the 2 car back in line until nascar ordered Ryan to do so. Then when they went green Kyle started his blocking routine & after the 2nd major block, Ryan dumped him. I asked the chatroom if Tony was driving Ryans car LOL.
I wish Ryan didnt dump him, but he did. It is just rare to see Ryan be like that. The last time I can remember Ryan dumping someone on purpose was JPM in JPM's rookie year. I dont know what got into him, but he was pretty angry during the race. Even after they wrecked he told his spotter "Hey Jimmy tell the 18 he is also loose in the center"

Funny thing is Ryan had an easy top 5 going. TG was doing a decent job. the car was tight but still very fast. Ryan was very comfortable in the car. Think it was funny that TG's last race with Ryan was probably his best. I really had no complaints about TG this race. Figures that would be the race Ryan goes all Tony stewart on someone LOL.
As far as I could tell Ryans attitude didnt start until the 5 car drove him down to the grass. Then he got real fiesty.

I didnt want to see it happen, even though I was mad that kyle was blocking even though he knew he was too loose to be doing that crap. It seems a lot of cars drive Ryan harder & block him where they dont do it to others. So eventually I guess I knew it would come, but it wont help ryan any. One thing I know is Tony never backs Ryan up it seems, but if it is brought up to him, he better stay consistent on his thoughts on blocking & back Ryan up.
Leave it to his fans to be upset with him.

Re: POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

  Another bottom line here---Nascar is loving all this. With all the wrecks all they can talk about is the attitudes of the drivers and the results driving social media crazy giving Nascar great attention as they are always saying Nascar drivers need more attitude and rivalrys to drive excitement etc. Naturally they arent going to let the Danica crash alone all week as they announced more tommorrow on Race Hub and Iam sure others as theyve been on Dale Jr all week as well. Its always been said any and all attention is good for the series--good or bad, its when they quit talking about you because no one cares, thats when you are done. Anxious to see in Texas how Ryan and Danica perform with new/different CC's ??

I'm still wondering why Mr.wonderfull took Burton out,is this where Danica gets it from,#14 ?
Amazing,no one has mentioned it,yah think? Kyle and Ryan have had a frustrating season,so i guess i can understand their situations.

Re: POST KANSAS: "SMASH UP DERBY?"

You know, I am going to have to say Kyle was driving like the M&M's commercial and he was tied up.....and the m&m's characters were steering........I think he deserved it. I used to think Kyle had a lot of talent and he did, but now he is acting like his brother......and letting his frustration do his driving. He lost the Nationwide race the day before and he was just mad......had he been in his own cars he would have never driven like that..... Kyle just messed with the wrong driver.....I am just sorry it came back to wreck Ryan! Something about JGR drivers, Busch brothers and Ryan don't mix! It was an expensive weekend for Tony and SHR......

JMO .........don't get up set... I can see the wheels are turning.....

I think all Ryan Newman fans are long over due for this change!

Just to see or reaffirm our talking points about Gibson. Gibson may be great with Danica. He may work a little harder for her. ;)

Matt surely couldn't be any worse as I see it. Will he perform miracles? I doubt that too. But, I will be looking for the #39 to improve no doubt.

Thanks for posting this breakdown - I probably feel different about the incident now. Knowing Ryan I knew it wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment thing, something had to be building up for him to do that. Also, looking back at it, Kyle can be blamed more himself. He had to know that blocking, being on old tires, and Newman right on his bumper on the low line in the corner was going to be trouble.

Interesting regarding the BK deal too, that guy is always doing something to bend the rules as far as it will go, like speeding through timing lines in the pits, I think Nascar needs to give 1 warning, next time a penalty without question, too many guys are playing around on restarts and is getting out of control.
