THESE RACING BREAKS!

I know I must sound like a selfish race fan but I hate all these breaks. Pro football has them, pro baseball has them. To me it kind of breaks up the fan momentum!

Yes I know, it's wonderful for the race teams but us fans are left with a boring void for the weekend etc.

Trust me I have a life outside of racing and sports in general. The weather here in Ohio is so weird. Your in-doors a lot more than you would like with winter/rain and scorching summers as hot as anywhere on Earth!

Slow news week other than the new Newman family addition. Just wondered what you thought about the racing breaks?

i will admit, i was glad there wasnt no race, i kinda had my fill of nascar this year, part of the joy is gone, it was fun watching indy yesterday, they have some good young drivers, plus not many people i know, in real life or internet watches it, my buddy jam does and i know he digs his indy racing, RHR is turning into a solid driver, its good to AJ Foyt in the game, i think any kid growing up in the 70's knew the name AJ, also for me it was mark donahue in the 70's, rick mears in the 80's, al unser jr, i guess i was a penske man growing up, because his indy shops were here in Reading, before moving south,

as far as nascar, the dont get many off weeks, so that never bothered me now they are on a 17 week run until the end of the season, of course i want JJ or ryan to win the championship, if not oh well not meant to be, but im ready for hockey season with the grade A pick ups the wild made this summer,

so thats my ramblings for the week.

I know what you mean. Nascar is one of those sports you can pretty much see the "writing on the wall" as far as how well your favorite race team is doing. Not much fun watching an in-consistent race team that really will be no threat what so ever even if they make it to the Chase in all honesty! Team #39 would have to improve dramatically but with no movement.....can't see that happening...sorry!

My step father/brother both raced go carts back in the early to late 70's with a little drag racing thrown in. Lee(my step father) loved those old Dodge engines(426 Wedge) I think? I was more into drag racing growing up although I occasionally watched round track. My step brother Chris had a 1972 Chevy Chevelle Malibu SS Sport Coup 396 that was bad fast! Back in the day you could get away with a much louder exhaust and bumper heights..............man, those were the days!

We had this car and the color was forest green. It was parked at my husbands employment and totaled. We have always missed this car. And I agree "THOSE WERE THE DAYS'. Back then it was ART when they designed a car. Today they are cooky cutter designed.

Went to Lebanon Valley race track last night and watched the WOO 410 Sprints.The place was packed more so than i'd seen in years,and i didn't miss Nascar at all compared to this.The only time i thought of Nascar was when this young lady won in a 358 mod over Brett Hearn and i thought if only Danica and her fans could see this young talent. Brett Hearn started mid pack and is the most winning driver to date and the girl started on the pole,but still the young lady held him off even after the restart .Brett Hearn beat by a girl,now that's funny! The WOO winner was Graig Dollansky and after a crash and burn night before,i was happy to see him win if Swindell couldn't get the job done,sides they're team mates.

Yea back in the 60's-70's you could by a fast car from the factory. If you wanted to. You could add some headers and some kind of turn downs(Purple Hornies) or go farther with fancy carburetors/cams/pistons.

A street drag race here and there. They would get out of control some times. My step brother only lost once in all his drag races to a Dodge Super Bee 1970.

Then as time went by and lots of whiners started complaining. Noise ordinances and bumper heights took all the fun out of it!

Wow, the canary yellow car is a beauty. The same thing happened here with noise. People griped so some of the noisy stuff had to be taken off. None of the guys would drive a car tho without twin duals. Some of the cars sounded like the motorcycles do today.

Yes it is. Those were the days.........It was not unusual to hear a car racing down our street back in the early 70's. Dangerous but not uncommon.

I started a thread over in the Lobby about old cars. It went over like a "fart" in a phone booth...

You have to like cars to be into racing don't you?
