Newman, Busch called to NASCAR hauler after Darlington race

Several of #39-Ryan Newman's crewmen confronted #51-Kurt Busch on Saturday night at Darlington Raceway following an ill-advised decision by Busch to do a burnout through Newman's pit box. After Busch had a flat tire and crashed with six laps remaining - an incident which also collected Newman - the Phoenix Racing driver lost his cool and began yelling on the team radio. When Busch completed his pit stop to fix damage shortly after the wreck, he & did a loud, angry burnout while leaving his pit box. The burnout startled fans in the stands and put up a huge plume of smoke, an expression of Busch's frustration at a promising night gone bad. But while doing the burnout, Busch drove through Newman's pit box as well - and several Newman crew members were still over the wall after recently completing service on the #39 car. Among the angry crewmen was Newman's gas man, Andy Rueger, who went to the #51 hauler to await Busch's arrival. Rueger planned to confront Busch immediately after the race. But Busch's team knew Newman's crew was upset, and so crew chief Nick Harrison instructed Busch to stop at the entrance of pit road and leave the car there instead. The driver was livid on the radio and had been screaming obscenities during the final few laps, and the team felt it would be a good idea for him just to get off the track. Words were exchanged between the crewmen and Busch, and a NASCAR official fell onto Busch's hood in the process. Though contact with Rueger sparked the official's tumble, NASCAR's Robin Pemberton said the official just lost his footing. It's unclear whether NASCAR will issue any penalties in this situation. If NASCAR feels its official tumbled onto the hood on his own, then Newman's gas man could go unpunished.(SB Nation)
AND: #39-Ryan Newman had strong words for #51-Kurt Busch after their incident Saturday night. Here's what Newman told [Dustin Long] in a one-on-one conversation about the incident:
(WHAT HAPPENED?)
"I'm not sure what happened. It's easy to see and it's easy to say that Kurt blew a fuse again. I'm not sure why he did it and tried to run over our guys and NASCAR officials. And nobody is. I think the chemical imbalance speaks for itself. Kurt drilled me in pit lane and said that he was taking his helmet off and he didn't see where he was going, which I'm pretty sure there were 42 other guys that are taking their helmets off and doing whatever for the last 10 years and that's the first time that's happened to me. Circumstances I think are that he lied and was so frustrated that he doesn't know how to deal with his anger.
(WHAT NOW?)
"From my standpoint, that's the second offense on Kurt when he did retaliation on (teammate Tony) Stewart's crew and the officials there. I can voice my opinion on what they should do to him but that's not going to solve anything.
(YOU WENT IN TO NASCAR HAULER VOLUNTARILY?)
"No. They asked me to come in because they didn't know everything that happened on pit road. They just really wanted to know my side of that story. That was it. They said you're good to go.
(HE SAID HE JUST HIT YOU ON PIT ROAD)
"He said he was taking his helmet off, which I think was a lie.
(ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT HIM AS A DRIVER)
"Everybody has for the last 10 years. He's proven that. When you can't keep a job, it's pretty obvious."(Posted to Twitter by Dustin Long)(5-13-2012)

the media is always way behind the real story
I wasnt sure if I was mad at FOX when they made it out to be like they were mad because Ryan spun, or if I should just laugh at how idiotic they are.

it appeared to me that his crew were mental for all the wrong reasons, and i was dissapointed in them, im sure fox will have a 5 second bleep about it next week when no one is watching.

Yeah I was listening to Ryans radio, & Ryan was #### because no one was responding to him. He wanted to know what his looked like. TG came over the radio & said Hang on a minute we are fighting in the pits. Busch tried to kill our guys. So I was waiting to see if there would be any video of the incident after the race & all they did was make it out to be Ryan blaming Kurt for Ryan wrecking.
I was thinking....... Where do they come up with this $h!t? LOL

i can understand a ruckus going on in the pits, but tuna cant leave ryan hanging like that, he needs to control both situations, he really needs to go.

Is it me, or do they need some new blood in the broadcast booth?? I have never heard so much " filler" from them in my life. I could call a better race. They haven't a clue what is going on the during the race, and half the time they just make up stuff..

I'm not defending Kurt. But why did Ryan stop where he stopped on pit road? Most drivers go all the down to where the entrance of the garage is.

Most are just trying to vilify Kurt everytime something happens. And we have yet to hear Kurt's side. But Ryan is stirring the pot even more and called Kurt "imbalance".

Again, I am not defending Kurt, I don't like him. I think that he should be suspended for trying to once again hit a pit crew member (and it always someone associated with Tony Stewart). But a little perspective would be nice.

Re: Newman, Busch called to NASCAR hauler after Darlington r

to me, fox is horrible on broadcasting, only one i can stomach is chris myers, my favorite team was adam b, wally d, and benny p, it was always entertaining to listen to those 3.

as far as ryan stopping, that cant be held against him, what driver doesnt stop to another driver he has issues with when they get to pit road, case in point harvick, jumped out of his car last year, and kyle turned it into a moving object that could hurt someone,

im sure with what info tuna was pumping ryan, and the accident ryan was in, his temper was boiling, and i guess ryan was standing up for his crew..
kurt doesnt respect his fellow drivers, simple as that, i believe he doesnt respect the sport,
when he had his deal with JJ at pocono last year, he sat there agreeing with JJ, but as soon as his pit crew got there, he started mouthing off to JJ...

the only ride kurt will get is his brother ride, that is if he doesnt burn that bridge, which he has in the past.

are you trying to figure out a way to make this Ryans fault?
Are you insane?
Ryan is saying what everyone already knows. If it was Tony speaking his mind, you would be applauding him right now. Kurt ran into Ryan on pitroad. Like Ryan said. In ten years he has never been accidentially hit by another car after a race.

My question is. Why was Kurt going crazy on the radio to his team? he is the one that ran the car into the wall. Not the team. That is a real question since I havent heard any of his radio communication. Just that it has been reported he was blowing a gasket with his team on the radio. & I think we all know how accurate the reporting has been these days. LOL

Sounds to me he lost his cool, & it snowballed. it is all about Kurt when he is happy, how would anyone expect it to not get worse when he is upset. Sounds to mee, Ryan's portrayal of Kurt was pretty accurate. I dont mind piling on Kurt, because I think he is a douche bag, & believe he all by himself created every issue he had Sat. night. I think the only smart thing he did, was not start trash talking Ryan when Ryan confronted him. other than that. he was an idiot.

BTW SS14. All cars stop on pitroad when the cars in front of them stop. then when they go, you follow them off pitroad. I image when Ryan stopped Kurt hit him. Then when the others moved on. Ryan didnt. Ryan instead got out of his car to ask Kurt WTF. You noticed Danica was behind the both of them, yet she didnt hit anyone on pitroad. & this is only her 2nd cup start. Kurt has been around how long?
I think you should think things through brother. Unless your only goal is to be controversial. Even then. You could do better.

bravo!!!!

it would be a different story like ya said if it happened to tony.. ryan did nothing wrong, no one is making kurt out to be the bad guy, he is the bad guy, he has anger issues, and he shouldnt be driving til he has delt with them.

Take your Newman sunglasses off first.

Like I said. I am not trying to defend Kurt. I was just curious on why Ryan did what he did. Harvick did the same thing with Kyle Busch last year here. So I was thinking if he did because his cc told him what Kurt had done on pit road. I am not condemning him.

I am not trying to make this sound like it's Ryan's fault. I don't know where you got that. I just want facts.

Most in general are just quick to jump on Kurt. I'll give him a chance to explain his side. I don't listen to his radio communication either so I had no idea he blew a gasket. You saying that you don't mind piling on Kurt validates my post. I turned the race off after JJ crossed the start finish line. I will agree Ryan described Kurt right. That is Kurt Busch for you.

Newman is famous for being in the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately!

Kurt spun out. Newman tried to avoid the wreck and was hit in the back......end of story. Seen it a million times. :?

Those Finch cars are pretty good. Ryan Newman drove many Jim Finch cars in the Busch Series!

No one cares unless it's their particular favorite driver! ;) That's just Nascar........ :?

Re: Newman, Busch called to NASCAR hauler after Darlington r

I hope the teams looking to hire Kurt for next year take a good look at just went on. First of all, he doesn't even deserve the ride he has. For awhile I almost was feeling sorry for him, but he is just plain stupid and you can't fix stupid! NASCAR needs to park him, just like his brother. He has no respect for anyone. I don't think NASCAR did anything to him at Homestead for his behavior. I know Penske fired him, but I don't think he was even fined. And if he was it wasn't enough! Who was the little guy in the blue shirt that tried to knock the camera to the ground? He needs to be fined too!........... Now I feel better!!!
Why is it that Ryan seems to attract all these losers? Ryan doesn't take any garbage from anyone. Haven't they received the message!?!? :x :x
