Re: What happened on pit road?

as far as i know, kurt slid on the track, ryan slowed up not to hit him, the 21 got into ryan and spun him, so ryan's crew guy went after kurt, ryan and kurt had already talked and things were cool, the crew member was way out of line, and im not a fan of kurt,

Thanks MJ! Of all times for the cable to go out. Congratulations on Jimmies win, now Mr Hendrick doesn't have to haul around those hats anymore. ;)

Re: What happened on pit road?

Ryan Newman had strong words for Kurt Busch after their incident Saturday night. Here's what Newman told a reporter in a one-on-one conversation about the incident:

(WHAT HAPPENED?)
“I’m not sure what happened. It’s easy to see and it’s easy to say that Kurt blew a fuse again. I’m not sure why he did it and tried to run over our guys and NASCAR officials. And nobody is. I think the chemical imbalance speaks for itself. Kurt drilled me in pit lane and said that he was taking his helmet off and he didn’t see where he was going, which I’m pretty sure there were 42 other guys that are taking their helmets off and doing whatever for the last 10 years and that’s the first time that’s happened to me. Circumstances I think are that he lied and was so frustrated that he doesn’t know how to deal with his anger.

(WHAT NOW?)
“From my standpoint, that’s the second offense on Kurt when he did retaliation on (teammate Tony) Stewart’s crew and the officials there. I can voice my opinion on what they should do to him but that’s not going to solve anything.

(YOU WENT IN TO NASCAR HAULER VOLUNTARILY?)
“No. They asked me to come in because they didn’t know everything that happened on pit road. They just really wanted to know my side of that story. That was it. They said you’re good to go.

(HE SAID HE JUST HIT YOU ON PIT ROAD)
“He said he was taking his helmet off, which I think was a lie.

(ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT HIM AS A DRIVER)
“Everybody has for the last 10 years. He’s proven that. When you can’t keep a job, it’s pretty obvious.’’

Re: What happened on pit road?

Didnt realize he ran into Ryan on Pitroad after the race. Not even sure why he would do that. Ryan had nothing to do with his race all night.

What the crew member(s) were mad about was I guess Kurt almost ran them down in the pits during the race after Kurt wrecked. But even that crap had nothing to do with Ryan who was already back on track. I kinda wish Kurt would have gotten tough with Ryan actually LOL. he didnt have any team members to hide behind at that time.
I like the fact Ryan went straight to him to find out what was up.

Kurt is such a punk & hides behind people & sanctioning bodies while mouthing off to people.
I am not a JJ fan, but I really can understand his frustration with Kurt last year now. I mean I can almost picture him hiding behind his team sticking his tongue out at someone he has made mad.

Kurt Busch tirade leads to pit crew scuffle after race at Darlington
PUBLISHED 12 hours and 34 minutes ago

Bob Pockrass Sporting News

DARLINGTON, S.C.—A postrace scuffle erupted between the crews of Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman at Darlington Raceway Saturday night after Busch nearly hit members of Newman’s crew with his car on pit road.

Busch and Newman both were involved in a wreck on lap 361 of the Bojangles Southern 500. Newman’s Stewart-Haas Racing team was upset about the way Busch left his pit stall after the wreck, nearly hitting members of Newman’s team.

Busch, who was running near the top 10 when he crashed, was upset after the wreck, showing his anger on his team radio.

Following the race, Busch ran into the back of Newman’s car on pit road. Newman got out of his car and walked away, but some members of Newman’s pit crew were there to meet Busch.

A shoving match ensued, causing a NASCAR official to fall onto the hood of Busch’s car.

Newman gasman Andy Rueger was called to the NASCAR hauler after the incident. Penalties could be handed down next week.

“It’s bad enough doing normal pit stops, it’s dangerous enough doing that,” Newman crew chief Tony Gibson said. “When you come ripping through somebody’s pit box like that, he could have took out five or six guys, plus the officials.

“I don’t know how somebody didn’t get run over, to be honest with you. It’s just a miracle nobody got hit. NASCAR is taking care of it and we’re all good and we’ll go on.”

NASCAR officials had talked to Newman, Gibson and Rueger after the race but had not talked with anyone from Busch’s Phoenix Racing team.

“We talked to Newman a little bit and he talked to Kurt afterwards and Kurt said he didn’t mean to hit him on pit road—he was taking his helmet off and looked up and he ran into the back of him,” NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton said.

“Right now, that is all the facts that we have.”

Pemberton said NASCAR officials did not complain about contact getting shoved during the scuffle.

“We didn’t see it that there was anything aggressive towards one of our officials,” Pemberton said.

Phoenix Racing crew chief Nick Harrison said he knew Newman’s crew would be looking for Busch after the race.

“It’s great for our sport—if they’re mad and want to fight, so be it,” Harrison said. “It is what it is. We’re here racing with Kurt Busch, we’re going to defend Kurt Busch and that’s our job.

“If you go anywhere racing in any part of America and you don’t back your driver up, you don’t deserve to be there with that driver and that’s how we take it.”

Busch, the 2004 series champion has a history of reacting angrily when things don’t go his way. He was released from Penske Racing after last season following a series of emotional outbursts during the season, including a confrontation with an ESPN reporter during the season finale.

"It's easy to say that Kurt blew a fuse again," Newman told SI.com. "I'm not sure why he did it and tried to run over our guys and NASCAR officials. And nobody is. I think the chemical imbalance speaks for itself.

Re: What happened on pit road?

Hey everyone, thanks for the info. I can't believe that during all of this my cable went out. Thank you Time Warner, it only took them 14 hours to fix it! Supposedly, someone drove into the main cable station outside the subdivision! As for Kurt, he'll never change. And if some one hires him for next year, they are as stupid as he is. SS14 I like your opinion! Good call :)

Something doesn't seem right with this story because Kurt was in the hauler Friday night, he ignored the press when he came out so he NASCAR had talked to him. There is just too much miss information going on about this whole story. I still have not heard any confirmation other than by TG that Kurt almost ran over NASCAR officials and crew members. Guess the media was in the wrong places again.

Re: What happened on pit road?

Kurt's burnout through Ryan's pit is easily proven, just ask the other pit crew teams around the 39 pit stall what happened. Ryans pit stall was open ended in the front and usually there are cameras in these spots . Brad Keselowski's pit was behind Kurt's and Kasey Kahne was in front of the opening and Ryan's spot. Trust me if it happened their are lots of people who saw it. Plus Ryan's pit crew doesn't have the reputation of starting fights. Kurt on the other hand doesn't have an ounce of credibility in his body.

Re: What happened on pit road?

OK... here is what I know to be true, from printed sources & sources that whisper in my ear.

On the last pit stop, Kurt blew thru Ryans open ended stall and almost ran over a few #39 pit crew members and one NASCAR official. No TV, camera's or media - just pit crew members and 1 official.

Ryan's gas man yelled at Kurt, one of Kurt's Phoenix pit crew member yelled something back at Ryan gas guy... and the verbal fight was on. By the time both drivers were on the track, the feud between pit crews had reached a peak of verbal assaults. NASCAR officials stepped in and made them stop.

Then the crash on the track. Kurt & Ryan were cool with it, understanding it was not intentional & part of racing. Then the bump .... when the pit crew guys, were out getting each car... and gas guy and Phoenix guy started all over again.... to which we have all seen by now.

This fight had nothing to do with Ryan hitting the wall or being involved in Kurt's Eff-Up .... not much anymore, to do w/run thru the pit stall... not much to do with the bump from Kurt - now it seemed to be "mano a mano" thing between a few pumped up guys.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Being female and not possessing the 'fight gene' inside me - none of the above makes much sense to me... but I'm sure the males here will understand. :-)

I LOVED how both officials ( the one in the pit, who is not quoted, but basically said the same as the one who was, and was thrown on the hood of the car ) said any contact they got was not intentional and no harm done. To me, that is ULTRA cool. :-)

Lizard - Kurt is never quoted in the article. Bob Pockrass draws some conclusions, by listening to Kurts radio.

And now ya know ;-)
