About time Matt got a little recognition! Many races to go. Maybe that shock approval helped? ;)

Re: 39 team wins award for race

Hello fellow #39 fans. Just want to put my two cents in on Fontana. I listened to Ryan's in-car audio for most of the race (until I had to go get an RX) and I actually heard Ryan laughing and joking, which is a far cry from what I heard last year. But as I posted once before, with Matt back on the "box" Ryan can pretty much communicate what's wrong with car and Matt seems to have a pretty good handle on what to do to fix it. Take for example today, about 2/3 through the race, Matt asked Ryan about maybe messing with the "packer" to help with the balance and Ryan agreed. On the next restart, Ryan blew through the field and basically told Matt this was the best the car felt all day. He went from 18th to 7th in under 25 laps. All I will say is this, if he can keep from melting "beads" and stay out of other driver's problems, watch out, because I think the magic is back.........(oh and by the way, yes I am drinking the "kool aid", but it is better than rooting for the 22, 18, 24, 48 or let us not forget the savior of Nascar, the 88) my own personal opinion........

yeah it was the 1st time I heard ryan tell his CC now this is a race car. When his car was running at its best today. However the reason Ryan was laughing & joking was because the one stop early in the race when they took two tires, they did the opposite adjustment then what they were suppose too. That was the long run where he almost went a lap down. (he was laughing at the crews mistake)
It was nice that MB & crew were able to recover. Also was awesome to see everyone do a 4 tire stop & ryan gain 5 position one time. Might we start feeling good about the over the wall gang soon?
Another example of them communicating is when ryan was loose off the 1st half the race & they got that part fixed, MB wanted to make a trac bar adjustment for the tight in center, but after talking with ryan for a bit, Ryan convinced him that would mess him up off the corners (that they fixed) MB then agreed & shortly after that is when the car was as good as he had all day. So the team still making mistakes but atleast shows the ability to recover from them.

I really think it is the new parts.......Tony had the same comment...It was like the sea opened up, the waters parted and here they came! The static was so bad on Tony's scanner, but he was soooo happy with the way the car was handling.......let's hope this is the answer! Good things happen to those who wait! NASCAR held up the approval of the parts......I wonder if SHR's Dr. Who is "who" we should thank!

Re: 39 team wins award for race

thanks for posting the above radio conversation. I myself have a totally different outlook on the season now, still 20th in points but not that far from 15th, I can see Ryan inching his way back like we've seen in the past.

New parts seemed to definately work...only question seems to be about how everyone now knows about these new parts, and when is HMS going to be demanding they get included. I'm sorry until I see the consistent results I will never buy everything is shared between the 2 organizations, since Martinsville last year there's been a major performance disparity week after week, like we hadn't seen before in the previous several years. Was nice to see the SHR's run just as good or better than HMS yesterday though, first time in forever.

We have discussed this many times on here about the exchange of racing information.

In a sport as competitive as Nascar. Race teams are never going to tell "all" their secrets folks. Yes, you may read or hear this politically correct exchange of racing information but the reality is.......not happening!(in my opinion) :D

Why do you think so many race teams build their "own" engines if they can afford it while others out-source their engines/chassis? It boil down to money and trust honestly. Mainly money......

I know if Tony/Gene could afford it. They would build their own engines so they did the very best next thing they could. They out-sourced them from the most successful Nascar owners engine department. Hey, it got Tony his 3RD Championship right! Newman didn't seem to gain anything from it sadly but that's another topic! ;)
