Ryan and Tony -- You better find a couple of crew cheifs that know how to setup and adjust race cars during the race or expect more of the same. Totally unacceptable and embarassing to run like they did tonight. Both are going to find themselves on the outside looking in after what looked like a promising start to the year. Really frustrated as I'm sure two of the best drivers in NASCAR are right now as well. Something is broke in the franchise and needs to be fixed.

That wreck finally put that car out of it's misery. Hope it never comes back. It sucked in the allstar race and sucked tonight. I have no confidence in Tony G. at all. What is the deal!! :x

Re: Post 600

I'm tired of being nice as I'm sure Ryan is to his race team. :x

Been a fan way to long to set back and "pretend" it's all going to be alright next week! In Nascar there is no next week when you are competing with 42 other teams. Especially using Hendrick engines/chassis. There performances are looking like a low budget two car team. Absolutely ridiculous!

I have said many, many times how I felt about Tony Gibson as a crew chief. He's a much older old school crew chief using what appears to be old school chassis set ups that DO NOT work! Bottom line, he isn't getting the job done.

I have no problem with the buddy program as long as your successful but are you capable of playing bad cop when things aren't going well? I can't see Ryan as a Army tough hard type of person. He's more of a very mellow "go with the flow" yes man. Right now, he needs to be much more demanding and leave the buddy stuff in "the sand box!" He could possibly loose the Army sponsorship if his performances don't improve?

Racing is a very demanding and very tough business. The results are shown each and every race. You can't hide a bad handling car and we all can see which teams are on target. The thing is. This teams been together now in it's third year and Newman's performances have gotten worse overall!

Nothing more depressing than seeing Newman struggle all day then get wrecked out like it's a mercy killing!

I will get over all of it as I'm sure Ryan will. This teams needs a lot of soul searching and the weakest links need replaced immediately!

Re: Post 600

Ryan in the garage was giving up.. Congrats to his crew for getting that car back in the race and avoiding a DNF.. Both teams are crap right now & said in another post that this is the 2nd time in a month that Tony quit & wanted to go to the trailer. QUIT ??????? Neither one should be quitting. Fix the problem and move on. I don't know if Tony has the stomach to replace either Crew Chief even if it is needed. We'll have to see I guess. Tony feels like he hired the Best and they are doing their Best. grrrr

The issue, as I see it, is that neither CC seems to be able to "fix the problem." I doubt that Tony will make a CC change for either team mid-season. Who could they get to just step in and be successful right off the bat?

Re: Post 600

Great question. I mean all the good crew chiefs are taken. And with results like SHR are getting, not many "good" CC's are going to want to jump over to SHR. Obviously changing CC's works, just look at Dale Jr. Some CC's just know and understand how to diagnose and fix a pitiful race car. Others, like Tony G., just take swings and hope for the best and a strategy finish.

This is what I admire about Knaus. No doubt the guy pushes the envelope, but NASCAR allows it and most of the time, that guy can diagnose and fix a car like no one I've seen. Even if it means jumping all over Jimmy for driving it wrong..he'll do it. He is in control, not the driver. Too many times, I think Tony G. is intimidated by Ryan and vice versa. We need a new crew cheif to take the helm. Someone that understands the new way of doing things.

As far as Grubb, I thought he was doing a pretty good job till as of late. Running out of gas...can't balance the car...etc.. something is up. And don't forget, it could very well be that the cars lack adjustablility from the shop. The way I understand it, you can only have so much adjustablility in a car.

I'm not sold on lack of horsepower. Until you get a great setup, you can't take full advantage of the horsepower. At one point, 3 of the 4 hendrick cars were in top 10 running the 600.

Re: Post 600

one thing about chad, he gets colorful when things go wrong, its obvious after sunday, but the times i listen to the radio of the 48, he is the biggest cheerleader on that team, i listened for a few minutes on sunday, he kept tellin jimmie, "the 99 is 3 cars ahead, 2 cars ahead" he knew a victory was out of reach but he wanted jimmie to pass the 99 and gain points, and he did, until he blew up, so he had a good reason to cuss.

SHR doesnt need to get a CC, maybe look at car chiefs, i said in a other thread that ron mallec would make a good CC, he is the car chief of the 48, but if the mngmnt at SHR chooses not to make switches, then they are content with the weekly outcome, look how many times rousch changes CC'c, until he finds the right combo, and now look at his cars pretty much dominating the races.
tony isnt going to a championship with DG, nor is ryan with TG, your suppose to improve each year, not digress.................

Re: Post 600

I dont expect any CC changes midseason
If there were any at SHR it would have to come from In house or from the Nationwide series. Dont think they could vulture other teams midseason, & dont think they would take a chance on any available CCs that are jobless right now.

Inhouse or Nationwide Series or no changes at all. I unfortunately think it will be no changes at all this year.

Crap!

I wouldn't expect any mid-season changes either. The CC's are under contract. The only way a CC would become available is if the team owner outright fired a CC... and if the situation was bad enough that a CC got fired mid-season, would you really want him?
