Drafting with "Gilligan"

How in the #### do you go from fastest in practice to "Drafting with Gilligan" and wind up 17th????

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

Tony raced today? Just kidding. But maybe with a week off this team can turn around. Its incredible with the finishes lately that Tonys in 12th. But with that being said have you noticed that in all the Nascar shows when they list the top 10 finishes and then a column for the notables Tony hasn't been in either. I can't believe that these shows no longer consider him relevent.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

Very good question! Was anybody listening in on Tony's radio? Maybe his comments will give us some insight. I sure didn't get it.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

On Twitter Tony is stated as saying the "Gilliand was the best drafting partner he ever had" by his spotter...

something doesn't make sense, Gilliand finished 9th and Tony 17th????

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

They got seperated when Kurt "Still gotta figure this drafting stuff out" Busch nearly wrecked Blaney, best I could tell.

They had a couple good runs up through there and then it's like the momentum died out. Question is was Smoke backing them off and waiting till the last moment or were they just running out of steam too fast. If it's the former, it's too bad they got seperated. I think GIlliland would of won on a tri-oval move if it came down to them, but who knows.

Disappointing that is for sure. Can't get excited anymore during the race. Does Tony not care anymore? Don't get me wrong, I am and always will be a Tony fan.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

Kurt really seemed to have a problem being the "pusher" today. What was it, 3 cars he turned when he was pushing? He was doing better earlier when his brother was pushing him.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

From what I could gather listening to Tony today he and Gililand were content to ride in the back up until the last of the race and then steam ahead. They were making some headway until Kurt blew it for them.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

Smoke had the car. Was making a run when Kurt went for the trifecta. Lost his partner and tried to do everything he could without a partner on the last lap & 1/2 but everyone was paired up. Just kept falling back. Smoke and the 14 are ok. I'm not worried as they were in position to win at daytona and had the best car at Vegas. They are running good but not getting the finishes right now.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

I'm not worried about Tony (or Ryan). It just seems like every race something different happens that keeps him from a good finish. It this what "bad luck" looks like?

Stewart was poised for a top-10 before race-long drafting partner David Gilliland had to let off the gas to avoid a spinning Dave Blaney.

Re: Drafting with "Gilligan"

I thought Tony and Ryan where team mates. Why do they not work together?
Not at Daytona and not today.
If you where the fastest two in practice, why not work together during the race?
Am I missing something or is there a problem between these two.

I think they started too far apart and never could catch up to each other. by the time near the end when they were close to each other they liked who was pushing them.
