Re: Dear Chad Johnston

Dear Chad Johnston,

I'll make this short and sweet, just like the race tonight.

Thank your lucky stars that your driver is Tony Stewart. There at the end he was a beast. I'm just glad that he seemed to like the car more tonight than in practice. Sunday will be interesting.

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

Dear Mr. Johnston,

To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. Yes, I am aware that equipment failure is not something you could have seen coming but this loss was devastating to a committed fan like me.

Oh I think that my emotions were certainly running high since this was his first race back but I am going to go ahead and put it out here now...........I'm not impressed. I think you have some work to do. What I heard on the scanner was Tony speaking with Bob as 2 men who know each other well and communicate easily. You sounded like the outsider to me. You my friend need to step it up in my eyes. I'm hoping that next week will have a different result.

I thought I heard on one of the pre race shows that you had recently had a surgery. I hope it wasn't to cut off your rhymes with falls.

Regards,

Doc

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

Doc,

I know nothing of Chad, cept he came from Michael Waltrips
less than honest and above board facility.

What I would observe, and share though is this....!!!

Stewart expects nothing but success the moment he fires the motor.
Stewart is demanding and expects not only answers, but instant
solutions to his perception of the problem.

Nothing wrong with the above.... It is what has made him successful.
He IS the boss, ergo Chad is expected to have answers, and fixes,
NOW.

Tough shoes that guy is in. I'm on the side of giving him as much
time as Smoke does.... it may take a few laps....

Don't forget, we have Zippy in there running interference.
So, yeah, let's be patient and watch the season develop.

My two cents >>> with inflation... prolly 14 cents by now.... :D

Regards

Oh...!!!!! post script....

Can you possibly imagine the pressure on that poor deevil (Chad).
Damm.... The pressure in that cooker is redlined...!!!!! :D

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

My intention with this format is just one fans perspective throughout this season. Chad's rookie season with SHR such as it is.

The relationship between driver and crew chief takes time I know. Chemistry takes time and cannot be faked. It is unfortunate that he has never been able to duplicate or even come close to what he had with Zippy. I can only imagine how hard it would be to CC for one Mr. Tony Stewart. I'm well aware that he demands excellence. That is how a champ rolls.

My greatest fear is that this is not a good fit. Not that I presume after one race that this is not working. I hope that Chad can regroup from this and he and Tony can go on to win races and form a brotherhood of sorts.

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

I'm sure chad will get everything righted for tony. He's a very talented cc. that 56 car was capable of winning more races than it did during johnston's tenure at mwr.

That being said, I'm sure there's going to be some growing pains because he is still acclimating to the SHR shop, the staff, crew and most importantly, tony.

So all i can say, is patience....good things are on the horizon :)

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

I wish I could get inside Tony's brain just long enough to understand why he let Darian go. :? Whatever his issue was, he kept it to himself.

Doc, it was an emergency appendectomy that CJ had done on Wednesday.

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

I actually thought the most interesting part of the night was when Chad asked if there was a miss in the engine too. Tony hadn't even mentioned that to that point. So it was a good catch. But I think there was little he could control about the whole issue. They did what they could.

That being said, to me he didn't sound like an outsider. I've thought about it, having the option to listen to other drivers in the time Tony was hurt, and I've found that Tony is not in the least bit chatty. In fact he's so quiet I can't listen to other drivers because they talk to much. I think to Tony it's about your actions, not words. He has input and the only response is for you to make the changes necessary. I'm not sure he even needs a cheerleader outside of Bob.

I'm giving him a chance, something that hardly any Smoke fans give his CC. I'm giving 2014 a chance to develop and come around. I think Tony's comeback will not be as spectacular as some would like, but I believe he will be competitive and win his customary one race this year and thus make the Chase. Will he win it all? I don't know, the next few weeks will tell.
If Smoke can't do it then Rowdy sure can.

Re: Dear Chad Johnston

Correct me if I'm wrong. Tony wanted Zippy & D. Grubb was the asking price?

Thanks, Doc, for the post-race commentary. I think we will all learn from the discussion.

I was disappointed with Tony's Daytona finish. I am disappointed with the HMS motors. I am also disappointed that Tony & Princess had to go to the rear of the duels and the 500.

I am much happier to see my man back in action!! On to Phoenix!!!!

Dear Chad Johnston,

Well, it wasn't the result we wanted but I'm breathing a sigh of relief because I think it's going to get better and better. I am a believer that you have the ability to make the car better when it's not handling well and that you're not afraid to make calls.

Thanks for your hard work this week. Keep it up buddy.

Your friend,

Doc
