Disappointment for Tony

Sun Aug 21, 2011 9:53 pm

Watching his post race interview, Tony is disappointed. And if luck doesn't come his way, he knows he is finished. They just can't get the car good enough to win. I have been feeling that all along and Tony should have realized it long ago. I hate to say it but I think our man Tony might not be making the Chase. I haven't given up but it sure doesn't appear likely unless something bad happens to those around him in points.

This has been a hard season. When they should have won they didn't and now they are like a 7th to 10th place car. Right now he is just occupying space in the chase its sad to see my driver not being a threat right now. While Newman has on 2 more top tens then Tony, he has 8 top fives to Tony's 2. So why is Ryan getting to finish better then Tony?

Stewart: 'We're wasting one of those top-12 spots'

Usually most drivers are pleased when they come home with a top-10 finish. Most drivers aren't Tony Stewart.

'It doesn't matter'

Tony Stewart shares his feelings on his Chase chances after the race at Michigan.

After a ninth-place finish in the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Stewart wasn't smiling when discussing his fourth consecutive top-10 at the 2-mile oval and his first top-10 in the past three races.

"I don't know what we got to do to get one balanced for a day but we haven't figured it out yet," Stewart said. "We were on both sides of the coin all day long, just back and forth between tight and loose. So, just take what we can get I guess."

The finish keeps Stewart 10th in points, just 24 points ahead of 11th-place Clint Bowyer, with three races remaining until the cutoff for the Chase. But with no victories and just two top-fives on the season, Stewart isn't thinking about the Chase right now. In fact, he's not even sure he should be a part of NASCAR's postseason.

"I will be perfectly honest," Stewart said, "at this point of the deal, if we are going to run this bad, it really doesn't matter whether we make the Chase or not because we are going to be occupying a spot in the Chase that somebody else that actually can run for a championship is going to be trying to take because our stuff is so bad right now.

"We're wasting one of those top-12 spots right now."

It sucks, at this point I don't care about the Chase because, like he said, it doesn't matter because they'd be wasting a spot like Mayfield and Vickers in '05/'09 respectively. I'm just worried about him even winning a race this year.

^^^ This. I just hope he wins. I have a good feeling about Atlanta though. I would like to see him do something like Carl Edards did last year and turn around late for a few wins and a good tp five finish in points. Right now the highest I see him finishing if he is lucky is probably 7th or 8th.

All one of the top 10 have to do is get involved in a big one at Bristol and that could move a few around. Let's hope it is not Tony involved in the big one.
