I'm kind if tired of seeing everyone call for him to be demoted or fired. Contrary to popular belief, the crew chief isn't the start all/end all to most problems with a race team. If you've been paying attention, the cars have been okay but they struggle with track position. Darian as crew chief makes the calls he feels like he has to make to get that track position. If they don't pan out, like Saturday night, that's just how it goes, but I give Darian credit for trying to make something happen and get the car near the front so Tony can try to do his job.
If, or rather when, they get the cars where Tony can drive through the field like we're used to, it won't matter, but right now Darian's gotta do what he can to get them in position to win a race.
I am one who is not calling for Darians head. I think he is doing a good job, and has done a good job since coming on board. In 3 years, he has gotten Tony 7 wins, 3 chase runs and an all-star victory. This year, Smoke is on pace to lead more laps then he ever has at SHR. Darian also had the win gift wrapped to Tony at Texas, but Tony sped on pit road, costing him the victory. Darian has done well, and Tony has been competitive. I'm just hoping that his finishes start reflecting where he has been running.
I am a big fan of Darian. He has made some gutsy and difficult calls that this year have not panned out. One cannot place all of the 14's problems on one person. This team is missing something though. As the leader of this team the blame is going to be put on Darian.
