Zippy To Stewart-Haas?

•Zippy back with Stewart? hearing that Greg Zipadelli, currently the crew chief for #20-Joe Logano, could be headed to Stewart-Haas Racing in the future. Greg Zipadelli would take over as the crew chief for #14-Tony Stewart, who he won two Sprint Cup titles with [2002, 2005]. Current #14 crew chief, Darian Grubb, would move into Bobby Hutchens old position of director of competition. Hutchens and Stewart-Haas recently parted ways.(6-21-2011)

He's holding a news conference at Kentucky Speedway today...wonder if this will be what it's about. (Fingers crossed!)

He's also throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Cincinnati Reds game vs. NY Yankees tonight (6/21), in Cincy. They said he'd be in the announcers booth for a bit - so anyone w/ Fox Sports Ohio access, may want to tune in!

I don't know that Zippy's "all that"...I recall many days where, with multiple attempts at adjustments, that 20 car ran mid-pack and never improved. Now, that being said, I wouldn't mind seeing him come back just for the fact that they seemed pretty broken up about the move and it'd be nice to see them finish out their careers together.

Dang...........KY. Speedway is 1 & 1/2 hrs from me. But I had too many errands to run today to even attempt to go if I could have gone.

If it is, he'll be with Tony & Darian will be with Danica.

I'll put in my 2 cents also...This is all just speculation on my part, but what about Zippy to SHR as the new director of competition? I remember when Tony and Greg were talking about retiring together, Greg made some comment about wanting to eventually get off the road some in a few years as his kids got older. If this is still his plan, I couldn't see him coming on as a crew chief because of the time demands of the job, but maybe Director of Competition would be different...And it would be an enticing promotion for him...JMO

I've never been a huge Greg Zipadelli fan, but with that said, he's infinitely better than Darien Grubb. This guy flat out stinks, and anything is an improvement.

Hutchins was Stewart-Haas Racing's Director of Competition and Stewart said they are looking for a replacement. Matt Borland was promoted to vice president of competition and is serving as Stewart-Haas Racing's interim director of competition. Stewart said recently that "once that position is filled, the director of competition will report to Matt."(6-21-2011)

I like Darian Grubb a lot, a whole lot in fact, and I don't think he's "terrible" by any means. That being said, I did say recently on here that there was only one guy I would consider trading him for. That guy is Greg Zipadelli.

I thought Bobby Hutchens would be an SHR lifer, so I'm not going to say I think Darian will be since I've already been wrong once, but I don't think Tony will completely dismiss him from the team. In fact promoting him to competition director could probably be a good thing for both cars.

It makes sense to make Darian comp director. He is an engineer so it would help both cars.

I believe Tony and Zippy have stayed close enough where they could have success again.

I could see Zippy with SHR as the third crew chief. Now that being said, Grubb would be with Newman, Zippy with Stewart, Gibson with Patrick if she came over as I don't think they would expect a lot out of her the first year. If she does not come over, then send him to the #78 team as crew chief.
