It's funny how the nice, little things that someone can do for you will stick with a person. Around '81, I was about 14 and my step-dad was having double-bypass down at St. Vincent's in Indy. (pretty early in time for that surgery) It wasn't going well and he coded one time, nearly not making it through. Thankfully, he did and is still kickin' it to this day.
Anyways, I went to the cafeteria at the hospital by myself to grab a snack once. This nice lady, I'd guess in her late 50's, early 60's and I were just about the only 2 there at the time as it was pretty late. As I pondered what to get, she suggested I try a piece of pecan pie. I told her I'd never had it. She said it was good, but to make it great, have them heat it up and put some ice cream on it. She sat with me and we talked while enjoying the pie. What a nice thing to do!?
I didn't think much of it at the time, being only a young teen, and I don't remember her name, if she even told me it, or what we talked about, but I'll never forget the thoughtful thing she did.
To this day, I'll only have pecan pie served Ala-mode.
Stunning weather here the this weekend. High in the upper 60's, sunny. Sure beats living in FL at this time of year. My friends back home have been running the A/C now for a while. Me....got the windows open and lovin' it.
