Gee Beav....Blueberry Buckle haven't made that in years. Sounds like a fun time. That is what life is all about, helping each other and enjoying doing things like that together. I think you deserve the good citizenship and neighbor award.

Beave...what are apple brownies.. do you share your recipes?
Fri Oct 19, 2012 1:04 pm
As the apple brownie recipe is not a family trade secret passed down from one generation to the next. I can share that one. Blueberry Buckle on the other hand is "If you leak this recipe, I will haunt you for the rest of your days."
This coming from the same woman who told me that I needed to marry a woman who knew how to cook and if she didn't then I better know how, so I can teach her and then she can cook for me. Wouldn't you know it, I married somebody who knew how to burn water. So I had to teach her everything I knew. Although we share in cooking as she now does better with some than I do and there ones that I just plum enjoy doing.
Mind you also that when my wife and I got married, she weighed less than 90 pounds at 5'4 and today after almost 19 years of marriage this coming week is at a healthy weight for a woman her age and height.

APPLE BROWNIES1 Cup Sugar
½ Cup Softened Butter
1 Egg
½ Tsp Cinnamon
½ Tsp Baking Powder
1 Cup Flour
1 Cup Peeled & Chopped Apples
350*
8x8 greased pan
35-40 minutes
Combine Sugar, Butter, Egg, Cinnamon, & Baking Powder. Once thoroughly combined add Flour and Apples until completely mixed together. Spread mixture into greased pan and bake.
I love my Grandmother's 1970 Kithen Aid Mixer with all the attachments. It is older than my sister is, more efficient than my sister, it does not complain, and definitely more reliable.
Ya I know, I better duck when Mrs B sees this and sends it to my sister.

I wanted to share a funny story about baking with these girls yesterday ages 8, 9, & 13. The 8 year old being mine and gets to bake all the time had her fill of baking after doing one dish of brownies. This left the 9 year old baking the other two pans on her own. The 13 year old was doing the blueberry buckle and made all three of those.
Anyway, the 9 year old is making the apple brownies gets the first dish done and ready for the oven and looks at it says "we forgot to add something".
I said "no we didn't".
She looks at it again and says "we had to have, its not brown...all brownies are brown"
I said "have you ever had ones made with peanut butter?"
She said "no, why?"
I said "those are also a tan color"
She then fires off with "then why do they call these brownies if they are tan"
I then said "if it makes you feel better you can leave these here and on another day we will make some with chocolate in them."
She gave me a resounding "no way, these are going home with me"
Of course we had the typical conversation of "I want to lick the beater, I want to scrape the bowl, I want to lick the rubber spatula"
Then I would bring up the other two girls and would get "what about them". Typical 9 year old, not that my 8 year old is any different. Typical selfish kid who doesn't want to share.
The 9 and 13 year olds come from a family of five kids. Where they range in age from 5 to 13. So I will be working with the 7 and 10 year olds next with the Cheese Lasagna and who could not love that.

Oh...the comments about my sister...that is the nice thing about living 1100 miles apart. I only have to fear one rolling pin...and my sister does not own a rolling pin her husband does and it is getting passed down from father to son as at least one of them is going to culinary arts school.
Told my parents about this, my father was laughing...he told me to stop because it hurt him so much as he is still recovering from surgery. My mother just gave me that look, you know...that one you get hoping that my sister never finds out, but I know she will and I am not really worried about it.
Then there is my brother who will laugh just as hard as my father. We are all sick and twisted guys.

Well Beave I won't tell a soul where I got this. Love your stories. I have a hand mixer I got when we were married 46 years ago. I still use it and it is my favorite. I have a Kitchenaide my husband gave me one year many years ago but I don't use it. Looks as good as the day I got it. It is funny about favorites.
