Good job HH. You did the math and win an all expense paid trip to Barrow AK (in the winter time). All I need do is find an airline that will accommodate you and see if the Chamber of Commerce would have anything for you to do while you're there. No shorts allowed.

I have a Weather Channel app and Barrow is one of the cities I keep track of. The highs there are seldom above zero for weeks at a time and it was funny when the sunrise/sunset times were only minutes apart. Actually, I'd like to visit Barrow just for fun. Anybody been to Barrow, raise their hand?

Thanks for playing the thorman useless facts game. And thanks Kim a little early.

Glad to see all had a happy Easter and some good food. I was born on Easter Sunday and had my 11th birthday on Easter. I won't have another birthday on Easter until my 73rd birthday. Just thought I put that in. Can anyone figure out what year I was born? A little quiz on an off week.

Okay....according to my chart, same as the one used by HH

April 17, 1949. ...........Easter Sunday..... eleven years later
April 17, 1960............Easter Sunday
April 17, 2022........... 73 years later Easter Sunday

Do the math.......so with the clues you gave us .........my date works out too! I want a trip to Alaska too!!

Easter on April 17 :
1650 1661 1672 1718 1729 1740 1808 1870 1881 1892 1927 1938 1949 1960 2022 2033 2044

Your years are right, but your math is suspect.

62 years

Am I right? I keep looking at it and wondering what's wrong here. I used to be good at math. :(

But wait...you are right. It would be my 73rd birthday in 2022 if I'd been born in 1949. Dang. It's kinda phenomenal that two dates are the same since Easter is moveable according to the moon. Dang.

You and HH have fun in Barrow and take shorts because I changed the rule and you can go in the summertime. The average high in Barrow is 47 degrees, and that's in July. But...but...the record high ever is 79 degrees so you may luck out. Tickets are in the mail.

Thanks for playing.

Barrow in the winter... hmmmmmm :| I don't own any warm winter clothes.

Let's see, I've been to Fairbanks, Anchorage, Mt McKinley (Denali), Seward, Soldotna, Kenai & Homer... all in the summertime.

Any time after June .......we can't go on a cruise cause my hubster is not a sailor.....a pilot, yes.... water no.....he gets sea sick watching a bath tub fill....  Go figure! Is that the "Four Seasons" in Barrows? :) I think Thorman needs to go too!

Mon Apr 01, 2013 11:59 am

After June is fine with us. Sure, Thorman can join us... after all, he is the one paying for it. By the way, how long is the trip? One week, two weeks?

OMG, What did I get myself into? Might as well make it two weeks. Gotta see all the sights which probably would take about 12 hours. Sure, I'll buy. Need a good lottery win to pay for it. We'd fly into the Wiley Post - Will Rogers International Airport. Remember Will Rogers anyone? Very funny guy whose humor is timeless. I think I'll put some of his quotes in the LOL page later.

Been looking at some articles about Barrow and I think I need more than one lottery. Had a pic of a gallon of milk with a shelf price of 9.89 a gal. For serious though, I'd go in a minute if I had the money. And me, the guy that hates cold weather. Just seems interesting. Saw a pic of a polar bear walking past a plane at the airport. That's something you won't see in Tampa or North Carolina. Maybe we can talk the mayor into having a NASCAR race there once a year. Make it after Homestead in November and use snow tires and lots of antifreeze. THAT'S IT...Now it's a business trip to promote NASCAR and all is tax deductible. All right folks, start packing. LOL.

Mon Apr 01, 2013 12:50 pm

All right! We'll start packing our bags. :D Two weeks it is... can't wait to see the sights of Barrow.

Mon Apr 01, 2013 4:02 pm

HH, is this a return trip? If so I nominate you for "Tour Guide"...... I don't know if this town will be able to cope with the influx of tourism.....the population is only 88 and with the five o us ......I don't know it could get really crowded......

"land of the midnight sun"... Sunscreen and sleep shades a must. Packed ready to go! :D

Mon Apr 01, 2013 5:45 pm

A return trip to Alaska, but not to Barrow. Never been there.

I remember that sleeping was a problem because we couldn't get the room dark enough.

Mon Apr 01, 2013 7:23 pm

Population 88??? What? No way. This ain't no hick town. According to the 2010 census Barrow is a whopping 4,212 living and breathing souls. Don't count the Huskies. They have an artificial turf football field, and ........uh......hmmm...........something else. I'll have to get back with you on that.

I've never been to Alaska except for a 4 hour layover at an Air Force base to refuel on the way back from Vietnam. Remember it was -7 degrees and that is my memories in AK.

Glad you all have been to Alaska before. Do you speak Inuit-Yupik-Unangan, Unangan (Aleut), Alutiiq, Central Alaskan Yup'ik, Naukan Yupik, St. Lawrence Island Yupik, Inupiaq or Athabaskan-Eyak-Tlingit. Not to worry. I'm going to brush up on all of these native languages by June and all will be well. There's about a dozen more but I can't speak them all.

Yes, in June or July it will be a midnight sun. 24 hours of daylight. You'd think with that much sunlight it would warm up a bit more than it does. What a trip this will be.

Looks like they do have one hotel  http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... laska.html

They will be having a heatwave on Thursday... the temp will be getting up to 0°F. :? I STILL may not have warm enough clothes for July.
