Bass Pro Shops Playing Hardball With Local Store

BPS isn't without controversy... at least not locally:

Do the 2 logos really look that similar to you? They don't IMO. Seems like they are picking on the little guy and their store isn't even built yet. Guess they are trying to get ahead of the game before they open the new store.

Sorry, but that's a bunch of crap. A bass is a bass for crying out loud. Why is BPS so worried about that? Sounds like a big batch of bullying to me. Losing respect for them as we speak...

Well my happiness at Bass Pro Shops sponsoring Tony just went straight to he1l...those logos are NOTHING alike.

Good thing I'm too broke to actually buy all the new Tony/BPS stuff I want to...even if I hit the lottery they'll not get a dime out of me until BPS drops this ridiculous lawsuit!

I went to the web site listed and read more of the story. There is more to this than what was stated in the first story. Darrell Waltrip had issues over the "Boggity" saying and I believe he won over that either that or the company changed the saying. The two signs may not be exact but they do make one relate to Pro Bass Shops that is in my opinion.

I'm not buying any NASCAR merchandise until they start making their products here in the U.S.ofA. (I have the same policy for all other sports too)

You would think, of all the major sports out there, that NASCAR would be the one to have their stuff made here.

I'm sure I'm off topic a little, but it's worth saying.

So if I made a logo with a Wolf on it, & trademarked it, that would mean no other entity could ever use a pic of a wolf in a logo ever again?
That is simply ridiculous.

Oh & Jamo, I think your also right on topic!!!

Good news for the "little guy."

Bass Pro Shops drops logo battle, but still has county battle to deal with...

Kudos to Johnny Morris if his apology was sincere and not just because his company is trying to get tax breaks from the county for their new store.

unless BPS actually "trademark" the bass, he never had a case,

few years ago i watched a gene simmons interview where he talked about how he trademarked the term "OJ" even tho it was around forever, now he cleans up when people use it, so best bet is to say orange juice...

I think that perhaps both companies may benefit. The outdoor folks may confuse the logo's ( OK sports folks - bass fish means hunting / fishing supplies LOL ) but not the stores. Some folks don't like little shops and would prefer to do biz w/a name brand corp and some, just the opposite.

So if someone wants something, thinks of the bass pic, and goes there. It's like advertising for both stores... free I might add. If they were smart, they would work together, each carrying different brands & such so they don't compete, selling the same stuff.

I'm glad the "little guy" won this battle... but at quite the financial expense to him, while BPS writes the whole thing off on their taxes. Where's the justice? LOL

I would not mistake the stores logo for BPSs logo at all. They don't look anything alike. I remember Robbie Gordon had logo battle with monster energy drink. They looked very similar so I agreed with that one but this lawsuit with BPS is silly. Glad they dropped it.
