Your parents told you they were going to kill you, you believed them and the teacher didn't care.
People on permanent welfare were stigmatized by their neighbors.
Banks gave you interest on your savings.
People remembered back to when times were really tough.
People remembered rationing.
Food had flavor.
You waited for seasonal foods instead of buying unripe foreign substitutes.
People expected to work for their pay.
People kept their underwear where it belonged.
Almost any job was better than no job.
Very few people were expected to be instantly available by phone.
Most people were not expected to work once they left the workplace for the day.
People were expected to clean their work area at the end of their shift.
Gas was cheap compared to wages.
One car per family was more common than one car per person. Same with phones.
People saved their cash and didn't take on debt easily. Banks were wary of bad customers.
When things broke, they were able to be fixed.
It was cheaper to get something fixed than to buy a new one and trash the old one.
There were a lot fewer social workers and non-profit offices.
People on disability benefits usually looked like they really needed it.

There is a reason why most forums ban people talking about politics. I am not sure quite what the rule is for this one.
But people bringing up politicians never end well. Someone may not like Obama, someone else could be a supporter (I am a supporter of Obama).

Kids played outside and actually talked to other kids. They respected their elders.
I could go on!

I remember the stamps and tokens for food and several others things. Shoe were one that had to have tokens.
Gasoline at 4 gallons for $l.00
Air raid practice during WW2
People were proud of their work habits.
Buying War Bonds in School. We brought money and received stamps and when the book was filled we turned that in for a bond.
I remember when slut meant dirty house keeper.
Butter and sugar were 2 food products rationed.
People on welfare didn't drive expensive cars
When you couldn't afford something you made it yourself.
Cars that could be tuned up by the owner
Girls wore dresses or skirts to school
Nearly every wife and mother cooked from scratch. No box mixes ever.
I could go on forever as I'm probably one of the oldest persons in the garage but I won't....
Oh yeah just one more. Kids used to play out doors and if no one was around you entertained yourself. Swings were in nearly every yard and the children used them.
Do any of the guys out there remember heel plates? People always knew when a guy was around.

I think one of the things I dislike the most now is the "social media" crap. I would not want to be growing up now. I don't do Face Book, or Twitter and I don't use my cell phone much (I have it more for emergencies, family or car, take your pick). I find that the younger you are, the less you know how to interact with your peers, face to face. I've never been much of a "phone" person either but it's necessary for a multitude of reasons. In high school, I spent many nights in my boyfriends garage working on cars. I miss cars that you could lift the hood on and recognize the parts. When your TV went out, you could open the back, pull out the tube that went bad, go down to the hardware store, get a new one and fix your own TV. Geez, I have to stop this now, I'm getting depressed

No, I had a timing light and feeler guages to gap my own spark plugs. On the car I have now, I can't even see the spark plugs nevermind take them out. Distributor... what's a distributor?!?

obama is not the only president to screw up, george W did his share, oh boy did he do his share, but thats ok.......... keep hoping for ronald reagan, the man who raised taxes 9 times the debt ceiling 3-4 times, talk about socialism... now this is what will happen, it has turned polital and people are going to argue, like there isnt enough of that here, this is one time i agree with smokeshow, it shouldnt be political, i see all the obama digs throughout the site, but why say anything about it? it doesnt accomplish anything at the end of the night,

everybody is in a hurry to get obama out of office, they dont realize they are going to vote the mirror image of himself for president, romey's platform is whatever is popular that week, ya never know what he stands for then once he starts talking makes george W sound like a scholar
