OK Beave, Give H some slack He lives 80mi south of me, so would U travel that far just to hold the latter so I can get on the roof??? Anyway, after the rain the sun came-out but it was windy. Didn't get pic's of the babys, but Momma/Daddy was out of the nest to let it dry-out today.....

Hey, HH has vertigo.......that's not fun. Give him some slack.....Love the Picts J...they are incredibly impressive birds. I really think you should enter your pictures somewhere. I have a friend who is a professional photographer and he was very impressed and he is not easily impressed.

When the owls have left the nest for the season... see if you can get up close to it, to look inside. Owls are notorious for taking stuff & bringing it back to the nest. Who knows what you might find in there! (( Maybe even my Frisbee? ))

Annalee, If I could tell Momma & Daddy apart, I would be known on SHR as "The Bird Man" From what I've read, they both take turns sittin on the egg's. SO,> Who is Whoo? As far as Knit'in goes, I'm real good at hold'in Beer & popcorn in my hands!!!!!

My dad lives in Deland FL and has a family of owls too. I have one I hear out back in the woods here near DC, but have yet to see him. I only get the privilege of a night-time hoot once in a while.
Here's a little info on telling Mama from Daddy. First, I think someone else posted, most of the squatting will be done by Mama and Daddy will be getting the food for Mama and the little ones.
Next, Check the owl's size. Female great horned owls are 10 to 20 percent larger than males.
2) Listen for the owl's call. The male great horned owl has a lower pitched voice than the female.
3) Watch the owl's posture when calling. The male will call from a prominent perch by holding his body horizontally, cocking his tail, allowing his wings to droop, and inflating his throat patch.
But, probably the easiest way to tell, the male will just sit around drinking beer and watching the race, while Mama nags at him to take out the trash.

Thx Annalee, I take my pic's Free-Hand, no tri-pod....But, I take 4, or 5 pic's before I get One that I think is good enought too post it on SHR May be ur professional photographer (friend) can tell me where too send my pic's to enter!!! Hmmmm, I don't think I'll be in the Top 5 too get 5 points for enter'in my pic

Sounds like a nice camera j. I just bought a Canon SX500 IS with 30 times zoom and 16.0 megapixel. It has a 32gb class 10 sandisk and a rechargeable battery.

I can take 200 pictures and 4 hours of video on this sandisk all at once. I think the interesting feature is switching from color to black and white and back again.
