Tony Stewart beyond Nascar

NASCAR fans know Tony Stewart as a sometimes brash, hard-nosed, racer's racer, taking to anything with four wheels whenever the moment strikes him. He's been a champion in USAC, IndyCar, IROC and NASCAR, won races at Bristol, Indianapolis and Watkins Glen, and controls his own destiny (and Ryan Newman's) as the owner of Stewart-Haas Racing on the Sprint Cup circuit. But that's just one side of Stewart - here are some of the other things that keep him busy off the track.
Team owner - besides Stewart-Haas Racing, he also owns Tony Stewart Racing (TSR). Formed in 2000 as a World of Outlaws Sprint Car team, TSR now owns four Outlaw Sprint teams (drivers Donny Schatz, Steve Kinser, Jessica Zemken and a car Stewart himself sometimes drives) and three USAC cars - one Sprint Car (driver Levi Jones) and two Silver Crown cars (drivers Jones and Bryan Clauson). As owner of TSR, Stewart has won 13 championships - three in WoO and 10 in USAC. Stewart recent won his first WoO A-Main at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario.
Track owner - in late 2004, Stewart purchased Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio from long-time owner Earl Baltes. The half-mile clay oval is one of the top dirt tracks in the country, home to USAC competition, the WoO's King's Royal, the Dirt Late Model Dream, and the Prelude to the Dream, an annual charity race Stewart founded in 2005; the race features Stewart's competitors and friends from NASCAR, the NHRA, and recently IndyCar (Tony Kanaan was the first IndyCar driver to compete). Stewart is also co-owner of Paducah International Speedway in Kentucky and Macon Speedway in Illinois.
Philanthropist - founded in 2003, the Tony Stewart Foundation provides funding to critically ill children and their families, fellow drivers injured in motorsports activities and their families and organizations offering protection to a variety of animal species, including abused and homeless animals. The Foundation sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including a 5-mile/5K run-walk at Mallow Run Winery in Indiana, a concert to benefit Thoroughbred and Greyhound "ex-racer" adoptions, monthly auctions and the Speedway Children's Charities Driver Ride-Along program at various tracks on the Cup Series circuit.
