Race 2-Phoenix

Wasn't able to watch the new format qualifying, but I'm happy that the 41 team will have a top 10 starting spot despite scrapping the wall in practice.

What did you all think of the new knockout quali format?

Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch it yet. Have it DVR'd but may just wait until next week to watch it as it happens. I too am happy with Kurt's starting position!! #outlaw #41in14

Re: Race 2-Phoenix

Kurt got into the top 12 running for the Pole but couldn't get better then 10th and is showing 16th in morning Sat practice but he is usually good at these tracks?

Far as this new qualifying there is another thread on that? 8-)

I honestly don't care for the new format so far.

I didn't much care for it either but I think we will see new strategies employed after yesterday. It was a learning experience. I think Hamlin left a little out there.

Re: Race 2-Phoenix

Sorry if there was another thread on this, I was jw while i was on the topic of qualifying. Esp since I wasn't able to watch it, and this is the first time any of us have seen it live.

I heard that there was a lot nothing going on for large chunks of the session and then a mad scramble at the end. Btw, how do they curtail the drafting and the aero effects the other cars have on each other?

Re: Race 2-Phoenix

I saw bits and pieces of this and I am ok with it. I think it gives some smaller teams a chance to qualify better. During a 2 lap qualifying session if a driver misses a mark, or scrapes the wall they end up staring in the back. This new system allows for some errors to be fixed and I think you'll see more race set up runs instead of top end speed set ups. This will show all what each driver actually has for the race. One thing I hope they do is make the races in pound races with know practices after qualifying except for tire changes and fuel. They may already do this, but I am not sure. Anyway I that would level the playing field even more.

####, that's too bad. After running solidly in the top 10 for most of the day, hearing reports that kurt's dropped a cylinder.

Re: Race 2-Phoenix

Wouldve loved to be a fly on the wall at SHR after he blew the engine? Point is--how much bad will happen before the "old" Kurt comes out again--lookout? Looks like Harvick is the only driver at SHR having good luck --so far--woops--"knock on wood"?

Re: Race 2-Phoenix

Was a shame to see the motor go, he had a top-10 in the bag. He's run good these first two races, has nothing to show for it.
