2012
  • Finished 14th in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points.
  • Made his 400th career Sprint Cup start at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City on 10/21.
  • Earned his first victory of the season at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on 4/1. Newman, who started fifth, won despite falling one lap down early in the race after receiving a penalty for speeding on pit road. Newman took his first – and only – lead of the day in his No. 39 Outback Steakhouse Chevy on lap 504 when he dove under leaders Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer after they collided in turn one. He held off A.J. Allmendinger on the final restart in a tough duel on lap 514 and pulled away on the last lap for the victory. Newman led the race's final 12 laps to score his first ever win at Martinsville, the 16th of his career and his third at Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).
2011
  • Finished 10th in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings as a member of the 12-driver Chase for the Championship.
  • Tied with four drivers for the most poles for the 2011 season with three pole positions each. It was the fifth time in his career that Newman has earned the most pole positions.
  • Scored his 49th career Sprint Cup pole position and his third pole of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon on 9/23. His sweep of the pole position at New Hampshire marked Newman’s sixth career pole at the one-mile oval – a Series best. The pole also tied him with Bobby Isaac for ninth-place on the All-Time Pole Winners list.
  • Secured his 48th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole position and his second pole of the season at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway on 8/26. It was Newman’s third career pole position at Bristol.
  • Won the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Bristol on 8/24. Newman led a race-high 109 laps en route to the win, which was his fourth career modified victory.
  • Earned his first victory of the season at New Hampshire on 7/17. Newman drove his No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) from the pole and led six times for a race-high 119 laps en route to his 15th career Sprint Cup victory and his third win at Loudon. Teammate and car owner Tony Stewart finished just .773 of a second behind Newman, marking the first time in team history that the SHR duo finished 1-2. The last time a team started 1-2 and finished 1-2 with the same drivers in the same order was back on April 7, 1957 at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway with DePaolo Engineering. There, Fireball Roberts won from the pole, while teammate Paul Goldsmith started second and finished second.
  • Captured his 47th career Cup pole and his first pole of the season at New Hampshire on 7/15. It was Newman’s fifth pole at New Hampshire, and it marked the 11th consecutive season that he has won at least one pole position.
  • Made his 350th career NASCAR Sprint Cup start at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta on 7/9.
  • Led the most laps – 37 – at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on 2/20 marking the first time Newman had ever led the most laps at a restrictor plate track. It was also the first time that the No. 39 SHR team led the most laps in any race since becoming a team in 2009.
  • Earned third NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship by virtue of a tiebreaker. Stewart and Carl Edwards finished the season tied in points, with each driver accumulating 2,403 points. But Stewart’s five victories trumped Edwards’ one, and per the NASCAR rulebook, Stewart was awarded the championship.
  • In winning the championship, Stewart became the first driver/owner to win the Sprint Cup title since Alan Kulwicki in 1992.
  • Won five Sprint Cup point races – Chicagoland (Joliet, Ill.) on 9/19, New Hampshire on 9/25, Martinsville (Va.) on 10/30, Texas on 11/6 and Homestead (Fla.) on 11/20.
  • Those five victories all came during the 10-race Chase for the Championship. On two occasions Stewart scored back-to-back wins – Chicagoland/New Hampshire and Martinsville/Texas. The successive wins marked the eighth and ninth time, respectively, that Stewart has won back-to-back Sprint Cup races.
  • With back-to-back victories at Chicagoland and New Hampshire, Stewart became just the second driver in the eight-year history of the Chase to open the Chase with consecutive wins.

  • Posted 45th Sprint Cup Series pole on 10/23 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. It was Newman’s third career pole at Martinsville.
  • Tied with teammate/team owner Tony Stewart to lead the Series in most laps completed (10,468). The duo each completed 99.8 percent of the laps run in 2009 (10,468 of 10,492).
  • Scored his 12th career NASCAR Nationwide Series pole on 4/24 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. It was Newman’s first NASCAR pole at a superspeedway.
2008
  • Finished 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings.
  • Won 50th Daytona 500 on 2/17 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on 2/17. It was Newman’s 13th career Sprint Cup victory and his first on a restrictor-plate track.
  • Won 43rd career Sprint Cup pole on 4/10 at Phoenix International Raceway, tying him for 10th on the all-time Sprint Cup pole list. It was Newman’s fourth Sprint Cup pole at Phoenix and it marked the eighth consecutive season that he had won a pole.
  • Won in his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start on 10/25 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. With the win, Newman became the fourth driver to win in his first start in the Truck Series. He also became the 19th driver to win at least one race in each of NASCAR’s top three national series – Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck.
  • Captured pole in first career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race on 9/11 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.
  • Honored by his hometown of South Bend, Ind., for his accomplishments on and off the race track following his Daytona 500 victory. Newman was in South Bend on 7/17 to unveil Newman Way – a half-mile stretch of highway near the South Bend Regional Airport.
  • Named as a finalist for the NASCAR Humanitarian Award for his work with the Ryan Newman Foundation, which focuses on companion animal welfare, especially the importance of spaying/neutering pets and the conservation of wildlife and the environment.
2007
  • Finished 13th in the Sprint Cup point standings.
  • Captured five Sprint Cup poles – Atlanta on 3/16; Lowe’s Motor Speedway on 5/25 and 10/11; Dover (Del.) International Speedway on 6/1; and Pocono (Pa.) Raceway on 6/8. Newman’s pole at Atlanta tied him with the legendary Buddy Baker for most Sprint Cup poles at the track with seven.
  • Earned three second-place finishes – Dover on 6/4, Pocono on 6/10; and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on 10/21.
  • Scored five top-five finishes in last seven Sprint Cup races.
  • Competed in eight NASCAR Nationwide Series races, garnering two top-five and three top-10 finishes.
2006
  • Finished 18th in the Sprint Cup points standings.
  • Earned two Sprint Cup poles – Dover on 6/4 and New Hampshire on 7/16.
  • Finished second on 6/25 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., – his best finish of the season and his best finish at the 1.99-mile road course.

  • Tallied three top-five finishes in the four races of the final season of IROC (International Race of Champions). Finished second on 4/7 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, third on 6/29 at Daytona and fourth on 10/28 at Atlanta en route to fourth-place points finish.
  • Finished second in United States Auto Club (USAC) Sprint Car race on 7/5 at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway.
  • Raced in two USAC Midget races, finishing ninth at South Bend Speedway on 6/14 and third at Columbus Motor Speedway on 7/5.
2005
  • Finished sixth in the Sprint Cup points standings.
  • Won the first race of “The Chase” on 9/18 at New Hampshire. It was Newman’s first and only Sprint Cup win of the season, his second win at New Hampshire and the 12th of his career.
  • Scored eight Sprint Cup poles – Las Vegas Motor Speedway on 3/13; Atlanta on 3/20 and 10/30; Texas on 4/17 and 11/6; Charlotte on 5/29; Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn on 6/19; and Dover on 9/25. His sweep of the poles at Atlanta marked the sixth consecutive time Newman started from the No. 1 spot at Atlanta.
  • Earned the year-end Pole Award for the fourth consecutive season via the strength of his overall qualifying performance.
  • Won the season-long Mobil 1 Command Performance Driver of the Race award.
  • Won six of nine Nationwide Series races, including five in a row, a single-season record – Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on 8/13; Michigan on 8/20; Bristol on 8/26; Dover on 9/24; Charlotte on 10/14; and Homestead-Miami Speedway on 11/19. En route to winning at Dover, Newman started from the pole and led a dominating 193 of 200 laps. Newman’s six wins tied him for the most wins in Nationwide Series competition that year.
  • Earned four Nationwide Series poles – Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet on 7/9; Dover on 9/24, Texas on 11/5; and Homestead on 11/19. Newman’s four poles tied him for the most in the Nationwide Series in 2005.
  • Scored eight top-three finishes in nine Nationwide Series starts.
2004
  • Finished seventh in the Sprint Cup point standings.
  • Won two Sprint Cup point races – Michigan on 6/20 and Dover on 9/26. The win at Michigan was Newman’s second consecutive win at the track. He also won the fall race at Michigan the previous season. Newman’s win at Dover was dominant as he led 325 of 400 laps to notch his third victory at the track and second of the season.
  • Scored nine Sprint Cup poles – North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham on 2/22; Atlanta on 3/14 and 10/31; Bristol on 3/28; New Hampshire on 7/25; Richmond on 9/11; Charlotte on 10/16; Martinsville on 10/24; and Phoenix on 11/7. Newman earned four consecutive poles near the end of the season at Charlotte, Martinsville, Atlanta and Phoenix.
  • Won his third consecutive year-end Pole Award.
  • Won the season-opening IROC race at Daytona on 2/13 to score his first IROC win. Newman finished second overall in the four-race IROC Series. He also scored two runner-up finishes at Richmond on 9/9 and at Atlanta on 10/30.
2003
  • Finished sixth in the Sprint Cup point standings.
  • Won a series-high eight Sprint Cup point races – Texas on 3/30; Dover on 6/1; Chicagoland on 7/13; Pocono on 7/27; Michigan on 8/17; Richmond on 9/6; Dover on 9/21; and Kansas Speedway in Kansas City on 10/5. Both the Pocono and Dover races were won from the pole.
  • Earned 11 Sprint Cup pole positions – Atlanta on 3/9 and 10/26; Bristol on 3/23; Charlotte on 5/25 and 10/11; Dover on 6/1; Pocono on 7/27; Darlington (S.C.) Raceway on 8/31; New Hampshire on 9/14; Phoenix on 11/2; and
  • Rockingham on 11/9. Newman’s series-high 11 pole positions marked the most poles won in a single season since 1985 when Bill Elliott recorded 11.
  • Scored a series-high 17 top-five finishes in 36 point races.
  • Led the series in miles led with 1,509.13 and paced the field in 24 of 36 races.

  • Won his first career Sprint Cup point race on 9/15 at New Hampshire. Newman earned the victory in his 34th career Cup start and won the rain-shortened event after leading 143 of 207 laps and starting from the pole.
  • Scored six pole positions, a rookie record – California on 4/28; Chicagoland on 7/14; New Hampshire on 9/15; Martinsville on 10/20, Rockingham on 11/3; and Phoenix on 11/10.
  • Set a rookie record for top-10 finishes with 22 and top-five finishes with 14. His number of top-five finishes was topped only 2002 series champion Tony Stewart.
2001
  • Ran in a precedent-setting A-B-C schedule for Penske Racing, which consisted of two ARCA races, 15 Busch (Nationwide) Series races and seven Sprint Cup races, as well as the non-points Winston Open at Charlotte.
  • Recorded second-place finish on 9/30 at Kansas, his best Sprint Cup finish of the year. Scored two-top five finishes.
  • Notched his first career pole on 5/27 at Charlotte in only his third Sprint Cup start. The feat tied Newman with Mark Martin for earliest career Sprint Cup pole.
  • Competed in 15 Nationwide Series races, scoring one win, six poles, two top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
  • Earned first career NASCAR win in the Nationwide Series race on 8/18 at Michigan. Newman started second and led 119 of 125 laps.

  • MCompeted in five ARCA races – Michigan, Pocono, Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Charlotte and Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Posted two poles, three wins, three top-five and four top-10 finishes.
  • MPosted his first career stock car win in just his second ARCA race by winning on 7/22 at Pocono. Newman started the race in second and led 40 laps before claiming the win.
  • MClaimed both the pole and the victory in two ARCA races – Kentucky on 8/26 and Charlotte on 10/4. At Charlotte, Newman started on the pole and led all 67 laps en route to the win.

  • Earned two poles and five top-five finishes in seven USAC Midget starts.
  • Competed in 12 USAC Silver Crown races, with a best finish of second on 9/20 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Finished sixth in points.
